Year 1 loved the harvest assembly today. They said that it is important to think of others before ourselves so that our food can be shared and that there is enough to share around everyone.
Our favourite parts of assembly today were:
Lily-Mae ‘…singing our song.’
Lily ‘…when foundation sang about the Dingle, Dangle Scarecrow.’
Isla G, Megan, Ava, Ellis, Riley ‘…making the mud pie.’
Georgia ‘..all the classes singing.’
Milly and Sam ‘..when Sam came to talk to us from Helping Hands. It was interesting finding out about where the food goes.’
Year 1 also liked the poem writing the letters of the word THANKS as Rev Vicki read the prayer. They said it helped them remember what she was saying.
Lots of children said they had shown determination to learn all their ORT words so they could move onto the next stage of reading books. Gracie-Leigh said she had shown determination to keep on going with her writing and that she had improved. Riley said he had shown determination in his number work to learn all the numbers to 100.
At home Oliver had achieved his orange belt in Karate. Lily had learnt to do a backward roll in Gym and Freya had shown determination to go to Rainbows and had enjoyed it.
In Year 3 we spoke about the Harvest Assembly and some of their favourite parts were; Reverend Vicki’s prayer, making a mud pie, and the different classes songs and poems.
When we discussed determination some of the times when Year 3 thought they had shown determination at school was when they were doing their writing, trying to make sure they include lots of adjectives and also when doing short column addition in Maths.
Outside of school Year 3 have shown determination when swimming, climbing and playing football.
We really enjoyed celebrating Harvest festival this year with our song. All of Harvest festival was enjoyable and we enjoyed listening to the other songs and poems.
Determination means being strong in your mind. In RE this week we are looking at the story of the lame man and how his four friends were ABSOLUTELY determined to get him help. They walked a long way, carried their friend who was probably heavy, climbed steps, took the roof off a house and had faith that he would be healed. All of our story was about determination and kindness. Showing determination is hard because sometimes it’s easier to give up.
From Year 2
HARVEST
-It is important to think of people less fortunate than we are at harvest time because we have got plenty of food everyday and it is important to remember that some people do not. This is an important time of year to remember this and donate food. A lot of collections take place at harvest time.
-Some of our favourite parts of the harvest assembly were:
-Year 4’s performance
-Foundation’s performance
-When helping hands spoke to us
STATISTICS
-We learnt what statistics are.
We were surprised by
-Women mostly live longer than men.
-More people believe in ghosts than God.
-We are living longer than people in the past.
DETERMINATION
-Here are some examples of when we have shown determination at school:
-When the iPad was messing up I kept trying.
-When I find comprehensions hard but I keep going.
-When I am reading and I can’t say a word but I keep trying until I can.
-Here are some examples of when we have shown determination out of school:
-At dancing I started two weeks later than anyone else but I was determined to remember the dance.
-At swimming I found getting my gold award difficult but I persevered and got it.
-I didn’t go to Chinese school for a year but I rejoined and made up for the year i’d missed.
My favourite part of the Harvest assembly was when we all did our songs aand poems. It was really fun and I really enjoyed psaying my part of the poem! When I show determination I feel proud of myself and I feel like I’ve done well!
My favourite thing in the harvest assembly was seeing what all of the other classes had put together for the assembly. I also enjoyed when Samantha came in and talked about where all the food that we donated was going to.
In Foundation we all thought making the mud pie was the best part of the assembly.
We talked about what ‘determination’ means, we told the children that it means trying your best to do something. When we asked the children what they had been trying their best at at school we had lots of responses.
Lee, “Reading words by myself.”
Oscar, “Trying to put my shoes on.”
Imogen,”I try to do my best every day.”
Sebastian, ” I tried my really best to look at the picture when I read my book.”
Zunnurain, “Playing games nicely.”
Charlie, ” I keep trying every day.”
The children have had a wonderful start to the year and we are proud of them all!
