I found out what animal year I was born in, I am a Ox, which makes me honest, stubborn, natural born leader, inspiring. Then I wanted to know what animal year Tyler is I found out he is a Pig, which makes him curious, reliable, sincere, and kind. I would like to make at school a chinese puppet dragon, because I love dragons, and I can’t wait to have a go at learning martial arts.
I am looking forward to the martial arts workshop too, it will be exciting! I love the idea of making a dragon puppet. Which colours do you think you will need?
My brother ashwin loves to watch the movie Kung fu panda. He loved the dragons and lanterns shown in the movie. Ashwin would love to make a Chinese dragon and scare everyone !!!
We looked at some pictures on the internet and found out lots of interesting things. Ross was born in the year of the ox and Nathan was born in the year of the dragon. Children get a red envelope filled with sweets and money. (Do you know what ‘money’ starts with? An ‘m’). We also discovered they make lanterns to hang in their windows and have lots of fireworks too. Ross would like to make a firework. Ross also has an indoor firework machine which projects firework images onto the ceiling/walls which he would like to bring in to school!
Wow, that sounds amazing! We would love to have a look at your firework machine 🙂 It’s great that you are hearing the initial sounds in lots of words, well done Ross.
Joe and I talked about the Chinese New Year celebrations and watched the dragon parade on YouTube. Joe’s favourite part was when the dragon was on fire. Joe decided that he would like to do a firework picture at school, as he remembered the fireworks we had at home on Bonfire Night. Joe said that he remembered seeing the colours blue, green, pink and purple, and that some fireworks were quiet but others were loud!!
Harvey had a look at the pictures on the internet of the Chinese New Year celebrations and he has decided that he would like to make a dragon puppet. He thinks that he might need sticks,tights/socks for the body, pointy pieces of cardboard, googly eyes and orange and red tissue paper for fire!
Alex is really looking forward to the martial arts workshop. He said that he had enjoyed helping to make a dragon out of cardboard at school yesterday. He would like to make a firework picture, he thinks he’ll need to use some black paper or card so it looks like night. We also talked about Chinese lanterns, we went to a wedding recently where they let off lanterns and one got stuck in a tree! Alex thought it would be fun to make a lantern. Alex has never tried Chinese food before but he thinks it will be good trying to use chopsticks – it might be a bit tricky though!

I think I will need red for the fire from his mouth, green and yellow for his body, I am really looking forward to making it.

I think the lanterns are very pretty too and a dragon puppet would be a great idea. What colours would you like to use to make your dragon Ashwin?

Dragon parades are very exciting, maybe we could do one in Foundation this week… What would you like to use to make your fireworks Joe?

Good thinking Alex, I will check in the art room for the black paper! Did you like the Chinese fried rice in cooking this week?
