In Haiti they had a hurricane and the houses were swept away. Their houses and homes and lives were destroyed. Life in Haiti now is difficult but with Christian Aid helping they have a better chance of surviving.
Jepthe and Zaza survived through the hurricane and earthquake. They are two children who survived, which is a miracle. The two children felt better knowing that people like Christian Aid had come to help.
The people of Haiti wanted Christian Aid to help rebuild their homes and help them feel better and give them support.
In Year 2 we talked about different ways we can show kindness around the world. Some of these are:
* give them support (Jacob)
* give them help when they are stuck (Jack)
* if there is poor people we could send them money as kindness (Oliver)
* send them kindness cards and messages (Dylan)
* at Christmas we could send them parcels with lots of treats to cheer them up (Milly)
* sending toys to children that don’t have any (Charlie)
* you could visit people in other countries and spend time with them!
In Year 2 we think that showing kindness to other people around the world is VERY important and makes our world a nice place to live.
Year 1 enjoyed assembly. They were surprised and shocked by how difficult life is for the people in Haiti. Nathan told us about the photo of the children Jephthe and Zaza and how they had survived hurricanes and earthquakes. Imogen told us that the families in Haiti who live in very poor housing made of wood which means that their homes aren’t strong and are very basic. Lee said that their diets are very poor and there is often a shortage of basic foods.
The children told me that Christian Aid provide equipment, tools and resources for the people in Haiti to build new homes made of brick to withstand the extreme weather.
When I asked how we could show kindness the children suggested giving money to the charity to help them. Lee said that we could write letters to the children to offer our support. Imogen said that if we took things to the charity shop that we had finished with that would help raise money as they could sell them to others. Buying from charity shops is also another way of giving to charities and helping those who are less fortunate than ourselves.
Life in Haiti is difficult because they have had a lot of natural disasters such as earthquakes and hurricaines. Lots of people have lost their homes. It is a very poor country.
Jepthe survived a hurricaine on his second birthday. Christian Aid built him and his family a house.
Zaza survived an earthquake. Christian Aid made her feel stronger by helping her with her hobbies and tellling her that she is stronger than the earthquake.
It is important to be grateful and appreciate how lucky we are for all we have. To help others, we can donate others our unwanted things, we can offer to feed those less fortunate and we can raise and donate money to charity.
First of all the children shared how they had been kind to each other in the classroom and at home with their families. Charlie T has been helping his Mommy clean at home, Matilda helped Archie today when he fell over and she gave him one of her flowers to cheer him up. Matilda also told me this morning that she has been sharing her toys with her little sister. Dylan said that when his Mummy had a headache he looked after her, Ellis also said he looked after his Mummy when she was poorly recently too. When we talked then about helping people all around the world William suggested that we were generous and shared our homes with people who didn’t have any. He said if someone was super rich they could give someone their home and then buy a new on to live in. Elliot suggested sharing all of our things, especially our money. He thought that giving money to people who needed it was an important thing to do. We then linked the blog theme to our Maths as we have been learning about sharing equally and problem solving. Well done Foundation for being kind and thoughtful.
