  1. Year 2 says:

Year 2 have enjoyed reading this story today. We talked about how the boy and the dog are the same and will be able to look after each other. The little boy showed he cared because he wanted to give all the money he had for the puppy and he didn’t mind that the puppy would be slow. He also showed the farmer his leg to show that he understood how the puppy would feel. The farmer was kind to the little boy by giving him the puppy. He understood that the boy and the puppy would be good friends and he didn’t want money for the puppy. It was like a gift.
In year 2 the children talked to each other about what would happen next. The children think that the boy and the puppy will be friends for life. We think the boy and the puppy will visit the farmer when they walk past his house and the boy and the farmer will become friends.
In year 2 we also talked about humanity and what that means. It’s kind of like compassion and kindness. Understanding that we are all the same and we all have good times and bad times. It’s about understanding each other.

  2. Year 1 says:

Year 1 loved the story about the farmer and his puppies. They said that the little boy showed that he cared by taking the puppy that was not as lively and fast as the others in the litter. He felt that this puppy would suit him best. The farmer understood when the boy pulled up his trouser leg to reveal a leg brace. The farmer showed that he cared about the little boy’s feelings by handing over the puppy that he wanted despite encouraging him to have one of the more lively puppies to begin with. He had tears in his eyes and the children said they thought that was because he knew that the little boy and the puppy would be good companions helping and understanding each others needs.
Year 1 predicted that the little boy and the farmer would become friends and the boy and the puppy would visit the farmer whenever they could. They thought the puppy would leap into the little boy’s arms as he had shown compassion towards him. We talked about loyalty and animals understanding their owner’s needs too.

We talked about humanity. We used an example of someone crying and how we would react to that. We said that someone who showed humanity would go and find out what the problem was and try to help them. All the children said that they wanted their friends, family and their teachers to care about them.

  3. Year 6 says:

The little boy showed that he cared by:
-asking to look after the dog that wasn’t very well and by saying that the dog needs someone who understands. We think he will be kind to the dog and look after him.

The farmed showed that he cared about the little boy’s feelings by:
    -he started crying.
-he let the little boy have the dog.
-he said you don’t want that dog you want the best one so he was being honest and caring about the boy.

What we think is going to happen next:
-the boy might cure the dog.
-the dog will have to go to the vet because it will be ill but the dog will eventually get better.
-the boy and the dog are going to live a very nice and happy life together.

  4. Year 5 says:

The little boy showed he cared by not choosing the best puppy, but the one that others would not want. He might have thought the puppy would be lonely. The farmer cared for the little boy because he let him see the puppies even though he wouldn’t be able to afford one. He was touched by the little boys story and chose to give him the puppy anyway.
We think that the puppy will grow and get stronger and both the boy and his puppy will help each other to get better and walk.

  5. Year 4 says:

The little boy showed that he cared for animals by asking the farmer if he could take the dog that couldn’t walk or run well, as he wanted to look after him because they had something in common.

The farmer showed that he cared about the little boy’s feelings by letting the little boy have the dog without having to pay for him. The farmer also showed that he cared for the little boy’s feeling by suggesting he’d prefer one of the fitter dogs.

    What happened next?
    We thought that that…
-the dog might show that he cares for the little boy by licking his face or curling up on his lap.
-the boy may politely offer the farmer his small change.
-the boy shows his gratitude to the farmer by giving him a hug.
-the boy and dog live happily ever after!

  6. Foundation says:

Foundation wanted to find out what had happened to the little boys leg and they asked what sorts of games he could play if he couldn’t run. We talked about the different games we can play outside, like building and den making as well as playing in the water tray. The children decided that he was very kind to the puppy and they thought that they boy and the dog would look after each other and always be friends.

  7. Alice jones yr 2 says:

The little boy showed that he cared by not taking the abled dogs and took the one with the disability. The farmer showed his feelings to the little boy by not thinking about how much money he would get and giving the boy the pup. I think that the boy played with the puppy and the farmer sells the other puppies and watched the boy and his new pup play with a smile on his face.
