Year 1 said that they come to school to learn new things and enjoy meeting up with their friends. learning new skills will help them to get a job they enjoy. We had a circle time with Jigsaw Jack and the children shared their responsibilities when they were in school. They choose to listen to the teachers and the ideas shared by their friends. use good manners, work hard always doing their best, concentrating well and helping and sharing with others. Imogen said she chooses to be positive and we talked together about how important it is to have a good attitude for learning.
Year 1 agreed that it is important to work in an environment which allows them to learn well so that they can achieve the best that they can. They said that their Mummies and Daddies and their teachers will be proud of them.
We as children are responsible for helping up other people if they fall over or are sad. We must be responsible so we can learn and listen. We are responsible to look after ourselves as well.
We have the right to be taught. We have the right to be clean. We have the right to go to school.
We disucssed why forgiveness is hard. We demonstrated with a piece of paper that unkind words can cause damage that cannot be undone by saying sorry. It is sometimes hard to forgive people because the words or actions may still hurt.
We think every child has the right to learn so that they can find out about new things and so that they have a chance at getting a good job and having a good life.
It is our responsibility to:
-help people if we can.
-help contribute to a good environment so that everyone can learn.
-respect others and treat them nicely so they are happy. If they are happy they will be able to learn.
Rights:
-to be protected from war
-to be fed
– to be treated fairly and to be happy
– to be heard
In Foundation the children are excited to learn new skills and knowledge and they really enjoy learning new things maths. We talked about why maths is important and the children said they needed to learn how to count things, especially as they are getting older. The children confidently recalled how we can do our best learning, by looking, listening, thinking and concentrating. We continue to learn how to help our friends to do their best learning by being a super learner ourselves and a supportive learning partner. Billy the Bee our BLP character has been helping us to learn about this and the children love giving him high fives!
The rights and responsibilities we have in year 5 are
-the right to be educated and cared for.
-the right to be in a clean environment
– the responsibility to keep it clean
-the responsibility to care for others
-the right to make mistakes
-the responsobility to learn from our mistakes
-the right to be listened to
-the responsibility to be listened to.
We have noticed that a lot of our rights and responsibilities are connected. That is because we can help when it comes to ensuring others have a positive experience in school
In Year 2 we talked a lot about forgiveness and what that means. About how when someone says sorry and they mean it that we can choose to forgive them or not. We decided it makes you feel better when you say you forgive someone. It’s kind of like fixing the problem. If you say sorry then you can move forward and not worry about it any more. Saying sorry and offering forgiveness makes people’s feelings better. We should only say sorry if we mean it.
EVERY SINGLE person in Year 2 should be allowed to learn. No one should be stopped from learning. Usually in Year 2 the learning stops when people are being silly or not listening. If we behave in classes then everyone can learn and not be disturbed. It is our responsibility to be sensible so everyone around us can learn.
We agree that every child has the right to learn so that they can increase their knowledge and skills, to help improve their opportunity of getting a good job and having a good life.
It is our responsibility to:
-not distract others from their learning,
-help and remind our class mates to stay focused,
-make the classroom a positive place to be,
-respect others and treat them kindly.
These are the R&R that we can remember:
-to learn,
-to have medical treatment if we are poorly,
-to be protected from war,
-to have a home,
-to be safe,
-to be cared for.
We think that they are all equally important, but we talked about which ones feel really important to us individually.
