”Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment ” – We think this means that in order to achieve your goal you need to self-discipline to ensure you don’t give up and that you try your hardest.
Skills that are important in order to achieve:
– commitment
– determination
– motivation
– positivity
– persistance
– resilient
– growth mindset
– a good support system
Micheal Jordan – he didn’t give up and this is why he is successful
J.K Rowling – she was resilient and didn’t give up and now her books are loved
Albert Einstein – even though he was expelled, he still went on to go great things
Elvis Presley – he didn’t give up on his singing dream and was hugely successful
Year 1 think that it is important to work hard, never give up, to keep trying and to have a positive ‘I can’ attitude to learning. They know good learners are resilient, resourceful and reflective. We talked about growth mindset and believing in yourself and the children thought that this would really help you to achieve your goals.
They enjoyed hearing about the famous people and the message they had was never give up hope, believe in yourself and follow your dreams. Self discipline can really help you to achieve your dreams. These famous people were determined to succeed and have achieved beyond their imagination.
This Friday Muslims will be celebrating Ramadan and fasting during daylight hours. During Ramadan they often will read the Quran, their holy book and think about gratitude and saying thank you for all that they have.
In Foundation we talked about the things that we need to try hard at and need to keep practising. Lots of the children are involved in clubs such as rugby, swimming and football. We talked about what we need to do if something is difficult. The children said we need to try and try like Terry the tortoise our BLP character. Here are some of the responses:
Toby and Riley have both been learning to ride their bikes.
Lee said he goes to football and swimming.
Nathan loves going to gymnastics , football and swimming.
Haris practices and plays football at home iwth his Dad and his brother.
Amelia has been learning to ride her bike.
Finley was very proud that he had learned how to swim underwater.
Lily-Grace shared that she has been having ice-skating lessons.
Maisie enjoys going to her swimming lessons.
Chloe shared that she has riden on a big white horse.
What a talented class, keep practising!
In Year 4 we have discussed what determination looks like for us. Sometimes it’s just behaving in class and sometimes it’s an end goal.
Satra – JK Rowling got told that she wasn’t a very good writer and her books got turned down but she showed determination and eventually succeeded in becoming an amazing writer. She has made billions of pounds from her books.
Amber – Elvis was a singer and he was told that he was no good at singing and he shouldn’t quit his day job. He carried on singing and was very successful.
Jack – Ramadan a bit like lent. Whoever takes part (mostly people of the Muslim religion) don’t eat or drink during the hours of daylight to show that they are disciplined and respect their God.
Year 2 has talked about being determined. We shared what we know about the people in the photos – Borys knows that Michael Jordan is a famous basketball player, some of the children in Year 2 have started to read the Harry Potter books written by JK Rowling and Miss Payne told us about Albert Einstein being a famous scientist! All of these people had a dream, worked hard and achieved their goals!
William says having a good attitude means that you will achieve your goals, Jaedene says that if you have a good attitude you will get better and better, Aaliyah says ‘Don’t eat too many sweets or burgers because you will find it hard to be an amazing athlete.’ Zachary says – Don’t give up on your goals!! Be determined to finish them!!
