Sebastian had watched three different versions on the net so there was three different sets of characters. He decided he liked the Farmer, Wife, Jack, Dog, Cat, Mouse version the best.
When I asked him who he thought was the most important character, he replied “The farmer because he planted the seed and it was him who grew the enormous turnip”!
William thought the most important character was the mouse because he grew all fat! He thought the turnip grew so big because the old man watered it and it had a lot of sun.
Lily said the turnip got so big because there was only one seed that had lots of room. The man also gave the turnip a lot of water. Lily said the man was the most important as he planted the turnip.
Lee & Libby both said the turnip just grew big.
Lee thinks the man was the most important character as he planted the seed.
Libby thinks the girl is the most important character as she helped the man pull the turnip
Charlie T thought the turnip got so big because it was a strong seed and because it got lots of water and some food. He thought that the mouse was the most important character because it was the mouse that made the difference to get the turnip from the ground. He actually said that the farmer needed a giant robot with pinchers and that would have been better!!
Ava said the most important one in the story was the turnip because turnips are vegetables and vegetables are good for you. She also decided the turnip was the most important part of the story because without it there wouldn’t have been a story! 🙂 She kind of has a point I guess!
Elliot said he thought it must have been an ‘enormous turnip seed’ as none of the others grew that big! He also thought he farmer was the most important character because he planted the seed, watered it and looked after it.
Luke thought the turnip had grown very big because the farmer had been watering it lots & it had had lots of sunshine out in the field.
When I asked Luke who he thought was the most important character he said the farmer as he’d planted the seeds & grown the turnip but then he said that all the characters were important as they’d all helped pull up the turnip together.
Poppy and I read a version that involved an old man, old woman, boy, girl, donkey and goat. Poppy thought the girl was the most important character. Poppy thought the turnip grew so big because they had left it in the ground for a long time, and also must have watered it a lot! She also said the seed must be the reason it grew so big.
Zach said water helps things grow so he thinks the turnip grew so big because it was watered. Zach said the most important character is the mouse because he helped pull the turnip and it came out when the mouse helped.

You have thought carefully Sebastian, it is true that there would be no turnip without the farmer.
William thought the most important character was the mouse because he grew all fat! He thought the turnip grew so big because the old man watered it and it had a lot of sun.
Plants do need water and sunshine to grow and it needs to be the right amount, not too much and not too little.
Lily said the turnip got so big because there was only one seed that had lots of room. The man also gave the turnip a lot of water. Lily said the man was the most important as he planted the turnip.
You have throught really carefully Lily, super challenge work 🙂
Lee & Libby both said the turnip just grew big.
Lee thinks the man was the most important character as he planted the seed.

You have done some careful thinking. What do all seeds need to grow?

He thought that the mouse was the most important character because it was the mouse that made the difference to get the turnip from the ground. That sounds like an exciting end to the story! 🙂

Vegetables are very good for you. What is your favourite Ava?
Elliot said he thought it must have been an ‘enormous turnip seed’ as none of the others grew that big! He also thought he farmer was the most important character because he planted the seed, watered it and looked after it.
It could be that the Farmer tried a new variety of seed, good thinking Elliot!
It was a tricky question to answer, well done for thinking carefully about it Luke. 🙂

Growing time is very important, good challenge work Poppy-Mai 🙂
Zach said water helps things grow so he thinks the turnip grew so big because it was watered. Zach said the most important character is the mouse because he helped pull the turnip and it came out when the mouse helped.
The mouse definitely helped and made a difference at the end, the turnip might still be be stuck in the ground without the extra help!
Dylan said the turnip had gotten so big because it had been left for a long time and given lots of water.
He thought the most important person in the book was the farmer but we discussed the fact they were all equally involved in pulling up the turnip.
Team work is very important, you can definitely get more done if you have help!
Alexander said that the turnip grew so big because it was watered well and it had lots of sun and ‘healthy’ soil.
