The penguins we saw were Gentoo penguins and they are the 3rd largest penguins, the 2nd largest is a King penguin and the largest is an Emperor penguin. I learnt that penguins can jump 2m out of the water because of how fast they can swim. In the wild when they go deep in the water their black feathers help them blend in. Their white feathers also help them blend in because the sun is a light yellow-white sort of colour and it helps them hunt their prey and hide from their predators. They have 2 coats of feathers, the bottom layer is like a blanket and the top layer is tightly packed because then the blanket type layer won’t get wet. If you were in a short race with penguins they would probably win but if you were in a long distance race then you would probably win. They waddle because it helps them keep their balance so that they don’t fall over because of the ice. When we went it was breeding season and if a male wanted to impress a lady he would give her a black rock thing to make her nest better. One of the penguins there was called Alf and he was like the leader of them.
In the tunnel we saw some rays, fish, sharks and a turtle! My favourite sea life creature was all of them but I really liked the rays and the octopus. I learnt that they have 2 extra senses but I can only remember one of them which was that if their prey/predator, maybe a crab, was hiding under the sand then they would be able to sense it. An octopus has 3 hearts which I thought was really weird and that they are like a big brain.
I saw a turtle. Now that I remember them turtles it makes me sad to think about the dead turtle I saw at Stratford Canals, its head had been ripped off and you could see its shell floating just above the water, its claws were so cute!
