  1. Year 1 says:

Year 1 know that St George’s day was celebrated on Sunday 23rd April. Alice took part in a parade. Jacob knew that St George is the patron Saint of England and killed a fierce dragon. In Buddy time year 1 and year 4 watched and listened to the story of George and the Dragon. They said that St George had to be brave to face the dragon and kill him in order that the princess be saved and that the villagers could live happily and safely in their village.
We talked about times when the children had to be brave. Demi said she had to be brave when she learnt to swim without her armbands. Georgia said it was hard learning to ride her bike without stabilisers and she had to be brave because she kept falling off. She kept on trying and has succeeded! Hannah had to be brave when she broke her collar bone and had to go to the hospital. Mrs Rooke reminded us about how she had to be brave when she went to the hospital with her broken foot.
We enjoyed looking and talking about the photos of people who have to be brave to do their jobs like firefighters, policemen and women and people who work in the army and at sea.

I was brave when I broke my foot because I didn’t cry and I didn’t know until two weeks later where I dropped a model car on it so we went to hospital and found out it was broken

We were very familiar with the story of George and the Dragon in Year Five. Oliver was even able to outline the reasoning behind the story. We talked about how knights used to be paid well to protect important villages throughout England. Sabien also mentioned that knights often travelled around looking for rulers who would pay for their bravery and protection.

Year Five were all extremely brave as it is sometimes difficult to talk about your own experiences- they took time to discuss personal moments where they thought they had been brave. Many pupils discussed how being brave wasn’t always easy, especially if they were injured or upset. In cases where pupils had been hurt or upset they attributed being brave to keeping calm, and clearly telling an adult about what had happened. We mentioned that this was especially important in medical situations as it helps us communicate clearly with Doctors, Nurses or other adults that need to help us.

  4. Foundation says:

Freddie very quickly spotted the Union Jack in the background of the blog, and some of the cother children then recognised it too. Riley said hat his Mummy had told him that St. George had won a battle on a horse. After They had been told the story of St. George Caleb wanted to know if it was a real dragon and questioned whether the story was real. I explained that I wasn’t there at the time, as it was so long ago, so I couldn’t say for sure.
The children thought carefully about a time when they were brave and here are some of their responses:
Ava: When I moved up in my swimming group yesterday my teacher was on holiday, it was a different teacher called Chris. It is hard to meet new people, but after I sat and thought about it I decided to give it a try, I was brave.
Riley: I was brave when I pretended to be the teacher at tidy up time and I spoke to the whole class.
Finley: I have been brave today because I hurt my knee.
Lee: I went on a drgon ride at the fair and it went really high and really fast, I was really brave.
    Well done Foundation!

  5. Year 6 says:

Sunday 23rd April is St George’s Day.

We know St George slayed a dragon all by himself. He did this because to save the King’s daughter from the dragon. This is why we think he was very brave.

Here are some examples of times when we have been brave:
    – When I went on very high ziplines
    – When I went into the haunted house
    – When I went on a rollercoaster – a drop one
    – When I went in the Shard in London
    – When I went on very high slides
    – When I conquered my fears

    People we think are brave:
    – My great nan – at 93 she jumped out of a plane
    – People that went to war for our country
    – Batman
    – My great grandad because he helped the army
    – My dad because when something bad happened to him he remained calm
    – Rosa Parks – she stood up for her rights
    – Jessie J who cut her hair for charity
    – My nan because she was really jolly eventhough she was unwell

  6. Year 2 says:

In Year 2 we read a poem about St George’s Day which told us the story of George and the dragon. We then had a circle time about what it means to be brave and when we have been brave in the past. Being brave means to be courageous.
Here is the poem we read – we hope you like it!

    DRAGON
    Only if you’re very brave
Should you go near the gloomy cave
For inside lurks a creature grim
I know that you’ll be scared of him!

    Scaly skin in crusty green
The longest tail you’ve ever seen
Gruesome claws that slice and cut
And blazing eyes that never shut.

Forked tongue flickers in and out
And teeth so sharp, I do not doubt
He’d eat you up in one quick bite
So forceful is his strength and might.

Don’t creep too close or you will hear
His dreadful roar like thunder near
Can’t you tell and don’t you know?
Where dragons dwell you should not go!

  7. Year 3 says:

The children enjoyed listening to the story of St George, they remembered this story from last year. Some of the children said they celebrated St Georges day at Cubs together. The class talked about how St George was brave in the story and killed the dragon. We talked about our fears in class. Alfie mentioned that he was really scared of spiders and snakes and that maybe when he is older he might start to be a little more brave around them. Kai was very kind and assured Alfie that when he picks up spiders they only tickle your hand and that the spiders in this country are not dangerous. Well those that he has come across!

  8. Year 4 says:

    Year 4 said that:

    – St George’s Day is on the 23rd April each year.

-We know that St George saved a princess and lots of other maids from being eaten by a dragon. George bravely defeated the dragon by using all his strength and might to kill the dragon and stop him from eating anymore beautiful maids.

    We have been brave when:
    – We have hurt ourselves
    – When I had to go to hospital
    – When I had to go to a talent/dance competition
    – When we overcome our fears

The people who we think have been brave are:
    – My brother, when he stopped breathing and had to be taken to hospital
    – People who have to have an operation or an injection
    – The people who do Paralympics

  9. 14MHaines says:

  10. zack morgan says:

I think that George was very brave because he fought the dragon and I was brave when I went on a really big zip wire.

  11. zack morgan says:

George was very brave when he fought the dragon, I think I was very brave when I went down a big zip line.

  12. zack morgan says:

I think George was very brave because he fought the dragon. I think I was brave when I went down a really long zip wire.

  13. Imogen says:

St George’s day is on the 23rd of April and is a day we celebrate when St George slayed the dragon. I was really brave when I fell off my bike and grazed my knee and we were really far away from home. Doctors have to be really brave to do their job because they give other people operations. The Union Jack is made up of different flags from Britain, our part is the red cross for England.
