  1. Year 4 says:

In year 4 we have had a big discussion about why people may choose to be intolerant of others. We spoke about what it means to be gay and pupils also wanted to find out what it meant to be transgender.

We watched the PIXAR video and decided that the small birds were being intolerant at the start because the big bird was different. The little birds could have made him feel much more welcome and waved back. We thought that the big bird would have felt sad but we said that he shouldn’t have then laughed at the end when the little birds lost their feathers. We should not stoop low to match the behaviour of others. Greet hatred and intolerance with kindness.

  2. YEAR 1 says:

Year 1 loved the Bird on a Wire clip and had lots of ideas about it. They said that the little birds were intolerant of the big bird and that had made the big bird feel sad. They thought that the little birds were mean to the big bird because he was different and not like them. They said that when the little birds laughed at the big bird he would have felt sad and lonely. When the big bird waved to the little birds they thought it would have been good if the little birds could have waved back. They could have called him over to join them to play.

Year 1 know that tolerance is about accepting difference and that we are all important in this world no matter what we look like and who we are. The children enjoyed listening to the song and said that they all play and share with others and try to be kind to their friends so that everyone is happy and feels valued.

A good attitude to learning is important so that we can all do our very best in all we do.

The birds were being really mean to him because he want to be friends with them. I think the bird is being really sad ,unhappy and also worried, because the little birds might gang up on him .Maybe the big bird hurt them last week and the little bird are being mean back they could like say hi welcome to family when somebody is nasty about other person differences helping someone, boy or girl being kind to everybody no matter what skin colour and also about if there in a wheelchair and somebody like who can walk I would n’t just go to the girl who can walk say to both of them do you want to play

  4. Alice Jones yr1 says:

The little little birds were being mean to the big bird because he was different. The bird felt said because no-body was his friend. The little birds could of played with the big bird and show him kindness. I think tolerance is showing respect to others and also having patience with them. I will be kind and caring to my friends and the people around me. I will also be helpful.
Interfaith is where you involve others from different religions into your heart and making them feel welcome.

In Year 2 we have talked about tolerance and it is when we show respect for different people says Sophie. We watched the videos and the bird video was funny but we do understand that it is important to show tolerance to people who look different, sound different and have different skin and different coloured hair says Daniel. It doesn’t matter who you are people should show you kindness says Aimee.
We read the poem again and this week we are going to show tolerance by; making sure everyone is included or we could write something kind in a note and give it to them.
    From Year 2

  6. Lily Ellis says:

I think that the little birds where being intolerant because they where pulling some funny faces about him, or laughing at him. I think that tolerance means that you need to show some respect to others around you.

  7. Foundation says:

The children were shocked by the mean behaviour that the small birds showed towards the large bird. Ava was covering her eyes! The children felt that the smaller birds should have asked the big bird to play with them as the big bird would be able to do different things and help them play new games. The children could see that the smaller birds were intolerant and they did not like this as it made the big bird feel sad and confused.
In Foundation we love our differences and we really liked the last verse in the poem. We like being ourselves just as we are, together with all of our different, wonderful friends.

  8. Year 6 says:

    TOLERANCE
We think tolerance is not giving up.
We are going to show tolerance by:
    -being resilience.
    -accepting challenges.
    -having a positive mental attitude.

    INTERFAITH
Interfaith is activities involving members of different religions.
Being in the right frame of mind is imporant because it helps us be successfull and happy.
We learnt the names for different parts of the brain and what their functions are.
We created a poster on strategies for having a positive mental attitude and containing ‘our chimps’ (This is a nickname for a part of the brain).

  9. EJones says:

The little birds were being mean to the big bird because he was different. They were being nasty and needed to show respect towards the big bird.

  10. Ronika Sharma yr4 says:
