The statue is called the Great Buddha of Thailand, it is 92 meters high (the same size as the Statue of Liberty if including its base). It is made with gold paint!

    I think enlightenment mes understanding.
I think the monk is meditating.

  2. Year 4 says:

We spoke in year four about Buddhism and about how Siddhartha Gautama sat under Bodhi tree in order to reflect and achieve enlightenment.

We spoke about how mindfulness that we have been doing with Mrs Arnold is a bit like meditating. It makes us calm.

This is a lotus flower. It is beautiful and emerges from the pond and murky water to open and show how beautiful it is. We have said that we can emerge from troubled times and show off our best inner beauty.

This week we will spend some time looking at the three fires and how to reduce or extinguish the fires and comment here.

  3. Year 6 says:

    ENLIGHTENMENT
Enlightenment is when we gain understanding about something.

Examples of when we have been enlightened:
-all the things we have learnt as we have grown up
-all of the things that we have learnt at school
    -got better at something
-things we have learnt from our parents

    BUDDHISM
Some of the things we have learnt:
    -believe in peace and happiness
-they believe the tree fires are the reason people are unhappy (greed, hatred and ignorance)
-they believe you can put the fires out and become happy by showing the opposite (eg. thinking of other, having respect and sportsmanship)

Some of the things we will do this week to extinguish fires:
    -being nice to our parents
    -forgiveness
    -donating to charity
    -doing good deeds
    -being fair
    -thinking of others

The plant is called a lotus flower and it starts in the mud and grows to the surface and then opens it’s petals. It represents enlightenment.

  4. YEAR ONE says:

Year 1 talked about ‘enlightenment’and we decided it was like when you suddenly realise what is going on. We learnt about the founder of Buddhism and we talked about how the first Buddha was enlightened when he worked out what was making people feel unhappy – greed, anger and not understanding other people. We talked about how we could help people to be kind, happy and wise. We shared some examples of things that we could do such as telling the people who are special to us that we love them.
The plant is a lotus and it is a symbol of Buddhism. It starts life under water in the mud and then blossoms on top of the water – we talked about this being like when the Buddha was enlightened.

  5. Year 2! says:

We enjoyed talking about Buddhism and ‘ENLIGHTENMENT’. We know when it is you finally understand something. Enlightenment is when your mind opens up in a peaceful way.
We talked about how doing things to others can ‘set a fire’. This is not nice or helpful. We need to fight fires and help people put out the fires. When you show kindness to friends that is when the fire can be put out explained Archie.
The flower in the photo is a LOTUS. We learnt about the LOTUS last year during ‘Multi-cultural Week’ says Lotte. We learnt how the plant grows from muddy waters in darkness but becomes a beautiful flower. We can be like the Lotus.
In Year 2 we are going to fight fires by being kind, making up with friends, saying sorry when we need to, when we notice someone upset to try and cheer them up.
We also enjoyed some mindfulness. Which is meditation and listening quietly to music and concentrating on our breath and breathing. This helps us stay calm.
We want to wish everyone in Cheswick Green Primary a PEACEFUL NEW YEAR!

  6. Year 5 says:

Year 5 have discussed Enlightenment and learned a lot about Buddhism.
We talked about being less selfish by helping someone if they fall over and
letting them play your game. Also we need to think more wisely of our actions so we can understand how
    other people feel.

  7. Naomi says:

    1. I think that enlightmant is when you understand something or gain it.
    2. No I don’t think so.
    3. I have learnt that it is a religon and it has three fires that are kindness,to be wiser and helpful I think.

  8. Foundation says:

The children tried hard to understand the term enlightenment and were very interested in the 3 fires. The children recognised that sometimes we may feel angry, be a bit selfish or not understand. We thought carefully about the ways to overcome this and we decided that our BLP character Billy the Bee would definitely help as he reminds us to work as a team and be kind to others. We also knew that our classroom rules help us to remember to have kind hands, mouths and feet and that our teachers will help us if there is something that we don’t understand.
