In Year 5 we discussed the difference between bullying and falling out with someone.

Edward described this really well and write on a blog post that “Bullying is constant, even after you have told the bully to stop. That is when you must get a trusted adult involved”.

We are all working on being better friends and classmates all of the time in Year 5. We are trying to remember “Be kind for everybody you meet is fighting a hard battle.”- Ian Mclaren

  2. EJones says:

I think that respect means when you look after things or show politeness to other people. I show respect towards other people by when we are having a conversation I make sure that both of us get a chance to speak and make sure that I am always polite to the person I am talking to. I show respect towards our school by looking after school property. I make sure that wherever I got a pencil or rubber or anything from, that is where I put it back. I make sure that the classrooms are always tidy and as a class we do that as well. Observance means when you obey the rules that you have been asked to do and make sure that you do it in a polite manner of respect. Last Sunday, there was lots of parades and a 2 minute silence to remember those who died in the war. We showed respect by having the silence and also by having parades. I am feeling Christmassy because when I am bored, I listen to Christmas music. What we should appreciate more is what we have got and not always asking for more and more all of the time. when someone does something for you remember that they are trying to be kind and remember to say thank you. People in this area and around the world don’t have much food and they are very sad because they could starve to death. To prevent this, you could go to your local church or somewhere where they are always sending off food to the families who are less fortunate that us. All of these themes link to respect. You should always be respectful and never miss out on a chance to be.

  3. Year 6 says:

    RESPECT
We think respect means appreciating others and what they do for you. We also thinks it means showing kindness and being polite to others.

    OBSERVANCE
Observance means religious actions or noticing things.

    Last Sunday was Advent Sunday.

We are now feeling Christmassy after the PowerPoint.

Some everyday experiences we should appreciate more are:
    – That we have a place to live.
    – The things we have.
    – That we have food and drink.
    – Spending time with family.

We could help people who are sad at this time by donating money or food. We could visit people and invite them over. Buy people presents to show we care. Say hello to people.

The themes are connected because they are all about creating world peace by being kind.

  4. Milly says:

Respect means being kind and polite and being nice to each other. To show respect in school I look after school property carefully and do what the teacher says.

  5. Ronika Sharma says:

I think respect mean that you should treat other how you would want to be treated an that is very important and treating somebody or something with care and look after things. I show respect to other people by treating them how I want to be treated any let them join in game or something like that. I show respect towards our school by putting every thing were I found it and not playing dangerously with anything. Observance means when you obey the rules that you have been asked to do. Last Sunday, there were parades and 2 minute silence to respect and remember people who have died in the war. I am felling Christmassy because I have got some decorations to put in the house in about a couple of weeks. We should appreciate people who have no water or foo and walk miles just to get clean water and can just turn a tap on and get clean water from there. We could take foods send them off. Remember to gives smiles to as many people I can see in the next few days. I will also try to cheer people up and how respect towards school property and to my friends and everyone in this school.

  6. Year 1 says:

Year 1 had lots of thoughts about respect. Milly said that it was about treating someone as you would like to be treated yourself. Ollie said it was about being kind to others. Gracie and Ellis said it was about sharing and working together as a team. Demi said it was always remembering to use good manners.Jacob said it was about holding the door open for someone and letting them pass through it first. We all agreed it was about thinking about and considering others.
We show respect by working hard and behaving well at all times. We wear our uniform smartly and are proud of our school and how we look. We show good manners always. We listen to others when they are talking.

In the powerpoint, we spotted the Advent wreath and the first candle that was lit last Sunday as it was the first Sunday in Advent. We learnt the word observance and know it means noticing things.

We did a vote on who was feeling Christmassy and lots of children said that they were very excited and had written their Christmas lists and that the shops with all the lovely displays and adverts on the television had made them think of Christmas.

We could help others by inviting them to Christmas dinner, sending them a card, singing Christmas carols to them and trying to make them feel happy and cheerful.

All the themes today link people getting on well together and helping each other in their everyday lives.

Respect means that you treat other how you would like to be treated, appreciate what you have, love your family and friends, listen to others, do not talk when the teacher is talking, do not mess up things when somebody has tidied up and lot’s more. You show respect to other people by treating them how you would like to be treated, appreciate what they do for you and what they give you, don’t drink when they are talking, do not fight others, listen to others and do not make things untidy when somebody has tidied it up for you because you couldn’t be bothered or something else.

  13. s14egaffney says:

Showing manners and kindnes is what I think showing respect is. I show respect to other people by saying thank you and sorry to other people.

  14. s14gpalmer says:

Never hurt or punch someone. Showing alot of respect would make your teachers very happy and pleased with you. Even a smile would do the trick because they would smile back. Plus if you are bullied that person is wrong and nobody is stupid. My mum tells me to walk away as well.

  15. maddy says:

We should care for one another because if one child is feeling in unhappy and you just stand there then that is not really caring for one a other is it so read are school motto that will help you better and I made and motto to help you
    will you be care
    and thought about
    other people and be
    kind to them
    because we need more kind
    people

  16. s14jhine says:

Year 5 Worked hard to know the difference between respect and kindness. the main difference we talked about is that respect is a feeling about someone that grows as they do more and more admirable things. For example we respect friends that are kind to us and becuse of this the become more important to us.

Berta- Holding doors open for people is a good way of showing respect.

Mehreen- Using manners such as please and thank you help people feel that they are respected.

Toby addressed the fact that you can only become respected if you first are respectful.

    OUR APPRICIATION OF EVERYDAY OCCURENCES

    Oliver- Playing with my brothers.

Naomi- School, as we wont ever get to repeat the days we spend here.

Charlotte- food and water, as some people don’t have enough of either.

Harry- Money, because without it we couldn’t do anything.

  17. Year 3 says:

In Year 3 the children talked about respect being linked to; treating people with kindness, being obedient and listening to what other people have to say. We also discusssed how we could show respect to our school by looking after equipment, keeping things tidy and looking after books.

  18. s14cpayne says:

This week we have enjoyed saying hello to people we don’t know. It’s amazing that WHOEVER we smile at they smile back. Even people that look sad or grumpy.
Many of us in Year 2 celebrate Christmas and are really looking forward to this special time with our families. We felt Christmassy this week because of our Parent Share when we made Christmas Crafts with our mums and dads. Miss Payne even played Christmas music.
Respecting people means being polite and showing manners to others says Lotte. Jake says respect means showing care for someone. Daniel says showing respect means not damaging stuff. Being helpful is also important says Ross and Sophie says you should always try not to hurt anyone else’s feelings.
