In Year 2 we talked about eggs. Sometimes eggs are brown on the outside and sometimes they are white on the outside. BUT … inside the brown egg is exactly the same as the white egg. That is just like us. Some of us are brown or black or white. BUT inside we are all human.
October is Black History Month. We enjoyed assembly because we celebrated the lives of some famous black athletes. Black or white we are all special!
This week we are going to try not to worry to much and Miss Payne is going to do some MINDFULNESS with us. On Friday, ask us what we did!
From Year 2
The people featured in this blog are people who are Sportsmen and have done their countries proud one way or another. They have represented their communities well and should be proud.
Yesterday during Black History Day we watched Martin Luther King’s speech and learnt all about how he helped Rosa Parks by organising a boycott of buses for over a year. His famous speech talked about not judging people by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.
We talked about Michael Jackson and why he was so keen to change the colour of his skin. We listened to his music and thought it was fabulous.
We have been undertaking mindfulness sessions with Mrs Arnold and we have really been learning to appreciate being calm.
In Year 3 we discussed Black History Month and some of the amazing achievements of the athletes in the photographs. We also talked about Martin Luther King and his famous speech.
When thinking about Well being some of the things Year 3 thought we needed to keep well were:
. friends
. food and water
. family
. sport
. different sport and other clubs
. community
. home
We discussed how when we were feeling worried or anxious it was important to talk to someone about it either to parents, teachers or friends.
We named all the famous faces in assembly. Alice said they were chosen as role models because they were all famous black sportsmen.
Oliver said that Martin Luther King was famous as he campaigned for equality for all black people in society.
Year 1 loved the wellbeing slides and talked about all the things in their life that they needed to stay well. They talked about food, water, sleep, exercise, friends, a loving home and being able to do clubs that they enjoy. Lots of children go to swimming lessons, do karate, go to football, gymnastics, dance and Rainbows. These things make them happy.
When we are sad we speak to our mums and dads, our grandparents, teachers and our friends. Lots of children sais that exercise makes them feel better. We are walking our daily mile in year 1 and enjoying the fresh air, keeping fit and can concentrate better in school.
These sportsman were a part of our assembly because it’s Black History Month. They are all well known for standing up, for what they believed strongly in – to be able to have freedoms as black people, like white people. Martin Luther King, once had a dream about putting an end to discrimination against black people. He was a brave man,as no one else dared to fight for this equality.
We understand that our own well-being is just important as everyone elses. We feel well when we are around the people who love us – our family, friends and pets. If you’re not feeling your best, it’s important to talk to someone. If your are religious, you might pray. We talked about how powerful smiling can be, both for ourselves and others.
We learned that everyone feels different in different situations but we all ranked our family and friends as the most important.
The sportsmen were part of the assembly because it it black history month. The man is Martin Luther King jr, he made a speech that stopped black and white people argueing. it changed the world forever. we need to feel loved, have food and water, have shelter and lots more.
In Foundation Sebastian recognised ‘Bolt’ and he knew that he ran really fast. “I can run really fast too!” This then began a discussion about who ran the fastest in Foundation. We all agreed that we would like to be really fast just like Bolt.
When we talked about ‘Wellbeing’ we talked about things that make us feel happy and well. Most of Foundation said that they really like to eat pizza and they enjoyed eating it. We then talked about hobbies that we have, the children enjoy dancing, rugby, football and playing outside with their friends.
When I asked the children what they would do if they felt sad or worried they all agreed that telling a teacher at school was a good idea. At home the children said that they would talk to their Mums, Dads, Nans and Grandads.
