What did Danny Wallace do?
He asked people to send pictures to him of them being kind to others. He called it a random act of kindness. He was trying to encourage people to be kind to each other.
Did it work?
Yes. He got loads of images and his story was published. He managed to encourage many people. Even though it worked there will still always be people who won’t be kind.
What act of random kindness can you do?
-Be extra kind to my parents.
-Smile to everyone.
-Help someone who is struggling.
-Help my parents more e.g. making my bed.
Did you enjoy the mindfulness session?
We found it very relaxing and it helped us to concentrate after.
Why are human beings like onions?
We all have different things that make us who we are e.g. beliefs, values and goals. They are like the layers that make us who we are.
What did scientists discover about Jupiter’s moon?
They found a source of water.
Why is this exciting?
This could mean that there is life on the planet.
Danny Wallace asked people to send pictures to him of people being kind. His plan worked as he was inundated with peoples photos of their acts of kindness.
We talked about kind acts that we could perform. Year 1’s ideas were
-playing with people who were alone at lunchtime.
-smiling
-looking after somebody who is sad.
-helping someone who is hurt.
-if somebody is short of food, give them/share your food so they are not hungry.
-sitting next to others and sharing.
Year 1 enjoyed the photos and talked about what being mindful means. They said that we all have different ideas in our heads about our future. Jack said he dreams of being a policeman. Milly wants to be a vet. Megan wants to be a teacher.
Year 1 liked closing their eyes and the stillness. They said it made them feel peaceful and calm. We talked about the calmness helping them to focus.
Foundation 2 really enjoyed the assembly on Monday and began showing extra kindness to each other straight away. The children were really motivated when I told them that we would be writing on the blog so that Miss Mason would know just how thoughtful they were! Here are some of the examples that have been noted:
Ava kindly offered for Amelia to go ahead of her in the line, twice!
Scarlett offered to help me find the next group of children for an activity, then later to help me tidy up the resources.
Charlie, Toby, Nathan, Sebastian and Haris all worked as a team to pick up the toys off the floor and to mop up the spilt water.
The children will practice some mindfulness tomorrow morning just before phonics and we shall make an additional blog post afterwards. We look forward to having a go, especially as it is my favourite thing!
In Foundation 2 we have begun practising ‘Mindfulness’. We tried it for the first time yesterday before our phonics session and again today, but this time after some ‘Write Dance’. The children tried really hard to feel what happens in their bodies when they simply sit and breathe with thier hands on their tummies. Lots of the children really liked to have this minute of awareness of their breath and the classroom felt very calm while we were practising. We shall continue this every day and will begin exploring using some other mindful methods too. Well done Foundation!
Danny had a good idea about how to show kindness to strangers. We are going to try some mindfulness in our class today and see how it makes us feel. Miss Payne sometimes puts on music when we are working and the classroom is nice and calm and peaceful. It’s important to relax and try not to worry too much about things. Just let them go.
In Year 2 we giggled about being onions. We are not really onions but have lots of layers to us LIKE onions! We made Miss Payne laugh with what we were saying.
