Lee has been looking at how houses are made. Bricks,windows and doors ect.
Houses in other countries are made of mud, bamboo, canvas (tent) and some people live in ice houses called an igloo.
Lee’s grandparents house is next to a wooden house which u dont see very often.
Super challenge work Lee, you have even thought about home in other countries and we will be looking at that next week. Perhaps you coudl be our expert!
Alice thought of the following materials that could be used for building a house. We thought of the 3 Little Pigs story for ideas and looked at our house too:
bricks
wood
straw
canvas (Te-Pe/Wigwam)
glass
xxxx
The children in F2 are thinking about that story for their guided writing task this week, sharing the story will have helped Alice lots. Super work! 🙂
Isla and i talked about all the different materials used to build different houses.
Bricks are used for building walls
Cement is used to hold the bricks together
Blocks are used for building walls/paths
Glass is used for windows to let in light and keep out the cold
Plastic is used for windows/doors
Wood is used for doors/floors
Some houses even have straw roofs this is called a thatched roof
We noticed these building materials on some of the houses we drove past over the weekend:
* Bricks
* Tiles (on roofs)
* Wood
* Wooden window frames and doors
* Glass windows
* Metal drain pipes
* Paint (on window frames, doors etc)
Oliver and I discussed what we saw around Cheswick, but we were also lucky enough to see Stratford on Avon this w/e too. Our list consisted of: bricks, glass, plastic, wood, paint, tiles and concrete. Ollie enjoyed looking into this.
We looked at lots of houses on the way to and from London in the car and on the train. Ava learnt that most houses are now made of bricks but that some can be made from sandstone or wood too. We also saw a few farm buildings that were made of tin or metal but agreed that we wouldn’t want to live there!
Olivia was able to tell me that buildings are made of bricks, plastic and glass for the windows, ice for igloos and in some places houses are made of wood.
Sebastian has learnt that most houses are made of bricks and cement and why because they are the strongest material. Also that they have glass for Windows , tiles in the roof and a front and back doors. He also saw how the national history museum was build with all the old stones when in London on Sunday.
