We think Ali felt that way because Ali’s friend was spending all her time with Laura.
We think Ali should have just gone and joined in with Laura. She was allowed to join in.
We think that Ali has a right to be upset because she can’t help her feelings but she also could have made the effort to join in.
Ali could have accepted the offer and joined in with them. She could have played with other children. She could have asked the teacher if she could also help to show Laura around.
We think that Ali felt left out becuase Kiesha was her friend and she was sad when Laura came to the school, as Ali didn’t want to share her friend. But then Ali realised that you can have more than 1 friend and that it’s good to be kind to everyone. In Foundation, we try hard to be kind to everyone, and always welcome new children and help to look after them.
In year 3 we spent time thinking about the story and relating it to our own experiences. We recognised that Ali felt left out because her best friend was playing
with Laura. We talked about times when we have felt jealous or upset when our friends have left us out. We discussed the importance of including our friends and that it is important to have lots of friends.
We found the story interesting today because we had a new girl in our class this year. It is hard when new people try to join in because you don’t know anything about them and your other friends get jealous. Having new friends is part of getting older and growing up. Everybody will get a new friend one day and you need to show kindness and respect.
You can usually make things better by talking kindly and inviting people to play with you.
We have a poem in our classroom by the door about ‘Friends’ and we see it everyday. Good friends are special!
In Year 1 we think that Ali felt sad because she had lost her friend Kiesha when Laura came to the school. She was probably scared that Laura wouldn’t want to be her friend anymore. The children were pleased that Ali said sorry when she got angry. They thought that perhaps Keisha and Laura could have included Ali in their play. We talked about jealousy and some of the children said that they had felt jealous at certain times. Year 1 said that it was important that we all got on well together so that we were all happy.
Year 5 think it would have been better if Ali had been brave enough to ask Laura and Keisha to play, so that they all could have been friends and they would have all been happier. Sometimes it is hard to accept a friend has met somebody new, and some of year 5 could remember feeling jealous when this had happened.
Keisha was probably chosen because Miss Coral thought she was sensible or friendly.
When we feel jealous, it is important to recognise the good things about our friends, and found a way to play as a whole group.
In year 5, we are going to try and remember this story, when building our own relationships at school.
Ali felt left out because her best friend was spending a lot of time with the new girl. We think Ali could have helped as well, to avoid feeling left out. She could have asked to join in with their games. However, Ali made things worse by shouting, which resulted in her friends leaving her on her own. She was brave to say sorry, which allowed the situation to get better again,.
we enjoyed the assembly today because it was interested.
Oliver: I like how everyone was friends in the end
