Haydn’s questions are:
* I am worried about doing lots more work in Year 1, and I don’t want to do spellings?
* My favourite colour is green, what is Mrs Parkers favourite colour?
Haydn thinks he will have the same level of spellings that Tyler currently has in year 3, Tyler has tried to explain that Haydn will start with Year 1 spellings, however he is reluctant.
Thank you Haydn for your questions. My favourite colour is purple!! There are lots of exciting times ahead in Year 1 and we don’t start spellings until we feel you are ready and able. We learn a few high frequency words and some Phase 3 spelling patterns too. It may seem daunting to begin but I am sure you will love it and rise to the challenges as you start on your year 1 journey. I am looking forward to meeting you all on Tuesday!
Adam and I had a chat about the changes that will happen in September . He said he will miss EVERYTHING about Foundation .
I asked Adam if he has any concerns – he said he’s really scared about everything apart from seeing his new peg . He is also worried that there won’t be any Duplo to play with in Year 1.
Hi Adam, don’t worry I have had a chat with Mrs Parker and she is going to make sure you’ll still have time to play with the Duplo. You are more than ready to move into year 1 and I know you’re going to have a great time!
Hi Adam
Year 1 is a lot of fun. We work hard and have fun too!!! I am looking forward to meeting you on Tuesday morning as I have a special story and activity to share with you. When there is change it is always a little scary to begin but you will soon learn the routines in year 1 and have a great time.
Joe said he is really looking forward to going into year 1 because there is lego to play with, although he is going to miss all of his teachers. Joe wanted to ask; Why do you have to learn spellings every week? and do you have to sit in the same chair and at the same desk all of the time?
Hi Joe
These are really good questions. We do have special carpet spaces and table spaces but not for all the activities and sometimes we sit with different friends. I will tell you more about this on your visit to year 1 on Tuesday. Learning spellings helps you to be a great writer and helps us to practice all of the new digraphs and trigraphs from our phonics lessons. You will be fab! We work hard in year 1 but it is good fun too!!
Isla is sad to be leaving foundation but excited about Year 1. A question from Isla and also a couple from me!
Do we still have buddies in year 1? (Isla)
Will there still be reading time in Year 1? (Where parents/carers come and read with the children)
Do you still have the rocket in Year 1? (With the opportunity to get diamond and win a prize)
Hi Isla’s Mum and Isla
Yes I’m sure we will have buddies in year 1 as it has been so successful this year. Yes there will be read together time and this is likely to be on a Monday at 3pm but is not finalised yet. We have a behaviour chart and it is similar to the rocket system with all the children starting on green and moving on to gold and diamond with rewards for good behaviour. Looking forward to meeting you tomorrow!
