  1. The Parry Boys says:

Oliver and Jacob listened to several poems about animals but they both liked this one:

    My Puppy by Aileen Fisher

    It’s funny
    My puppy
    Knows just how I feel

    When I’m happy
    He’s yappy
    And squirms like an eel

    When I’m grumpy
    He’s slumpy
    And stays at my heel

    It’s funny
    My puppy
    Knows such a great deal.

Oliver and Jacob thought the poem was funny and liked it because it’s about a dog.

  2. Max says:

My poem is called x ray fish by Giles Andreae
We like to swim around in shoals
And any food will do us.
Oh yes we are called the x ray fish
As you can see right through us.

I like seeing the fishes bones!!

  3. Mrs Rooke says:

    My Cat

I have a big black pussy cat,
    And Sooty is her name,
And every time my bedtime comes
she loves to have a game.

One day she found a ball of wool
    And got herself entangled;
She even had it round her ears
And on her tail it dangled.

She looked so funny moving around,
    But then I had to stop her;
For this bright wool that she had there
was part of my new jumper.

  4. Jacob N says:

    My mummy’s favourite poem is:
The Owl and the Pussycat poem by Edward Lear

The Owl and the Pussycat went to sea
    In a beautiful pea-green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
“O lovely Pussy! O Pussy, my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are, you are, you are,
What a beautiful Pussy you are.”
Pussy said to the Owl “You elegant fowl,
    How charmingly sweet you sing.
    O let us be married, too long we have tarried;
But what shall we do for a ring?”
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows,
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose, his nose, his nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.
“Dear Pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling your ring?”
    Said the Piggy, “I will”
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon.
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand.
They danced by the light of the moon, the moon, the moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.

I liked this poem because I liked the Owl in this and how they sailed away in a boat!

  5. Thom says:

    Poem 1
    I am a mouse and I don’t have a house.
I eat cheese and I can’t climb trees.
    So I get really fat
    eeks, there is a cat!

    Poem 2
I’m a dog that lives in a bog,
    No, No, No,
I’m a frog that lives in a log,
    No, No, No
I’m a hog that lives in a clog
    No, No, No

Actually I am just a cow.

(based on the Cheese sandwich poem from Michael Rosen)

  6. Sophie Allberry says:

The elephant goes like this, like that,
He’s terribly big, and he’s terribly fat.
He has no fingers, he has no toes,
But goodness gracious, what a nose!
I like this because there are actions that go with it like the boa constrictor song.

  7. Meira says:

    A view of a cat
    By Steph

I sleep on your bed, making it my own
And when you are away, I’m at home all alone
I walk around the food bowl, sniffing out what’s there
And if there’s nothing good, I look at you and stare

I like this poem because it’s about a cat. I really like cats but I don’t have one.

  8. Mollie H says:

Come and play a while with me, Underneath the monkey tree. Monkey See and Monkey Do, Just like monkeys in the zoo.

Swing your tail, one, two, three, Underneath the monkey tree. Monkey See and Monkey Do, Just like monkeys in the zoo.

Jump around and smile like me, Underneath the monkey tree. Monkey See and Monkey Do, Just like monkeys in the zoo.

  9. Darcy Year 1 says:

    By Gareth Lancaster
I love this poem because I love snails 🙂
    Slimy and slippery,
    Snails are such fun.
    Slowly they move,
    They can’t even run!

    Leaving their trail
    Behind as they go.
You can see where they’ve been
    And how very slow.

On their back is a shell,
    It’s really their home.
    It’s ever so small,
But it goes where they roam.

    On stalks are their eyes,
    That wave all around.
    One can point up,
    And one to the ground!

    They eat lots of plants,
    And all of the flowers.
    Munching away,
    Especially in showers.

    Shiny and slippery,
    Snails are such fun.
    They eat and they eat,
    They must weight a ton!

  10. Nathan says:

Nathan likes Dolphins so we found this poem ……

    Dolphin Dance
    DOLPHINS dance and DOLPHINS shimmer,
see their spirit grow and glimmer.
Swim on DOLPHIN, reach the top,
never look back and never stop.
The sea is calling, so dive on in,
wave that tail and raise that fin.
Give a jump for fun and glee,
then get on up and dance with me!

Nathan says he likes this poem because it is a happy one and he really enjoyed reading it because it made him smile.

  11. Tommy says:

My poem is called My dog ate my homework and it’s by Ken Nesbitt

    My dog ate my homework.
    That mischievous pup
    got hold of my homework
    and gobbled it up.

    My dog ate my homework.
    It’s gonna be late.
    I guess that the teacher
    will just have to wait.

    My dog ate my homework.
    He swallowed it whole.
    I shouldn’t have mixed it
    with food in his bowl.

I like this poem because it’s funny!

  12. Joel Kavanagh says:

    Puppies by Evaleen Stein
Little ears as soft as silk
Little teeth as white as milk
    Little noses cool and pink
Little eyes that blink and blink
    Little bodies round and fat
Little hearts that pit a pat
    Surely prettier puppies never
Were before or can be ever

I like the way it rhymes and that’s its about puppies.

  13. Jamie board says:

There are lions and roaring tigers,
    and enormous camels and things,
    There are biffalo-buffalo-bisons,
and a great big bear with wings.
    There’s a sort of a tiny potamus,
and a tiny nosserus too –
But I gave buns to the elephant
when I went down to the Zoo!

There are badgers and bidgers and bodgers,
    and a Super-in-tendent’s House,
There are masses of goats, and a Polar,
    and different kinds of mouse,
    And I think there’s a sort of a something
which is called a wallaboo –
But I gave buns to the elephant
when I went down to the Zoo!

If you try to talk to the bison,
    he never quite understands;
You can’t shake hands with a mingo –
    he doesn’t like shaking hands.
    And lions and roaring tigers
hate saying, “How do you do?” –
But I give buns to the elephant
when I go down to the Zoo!
