In year 4 we talked a lot about the story and the friendship between Max and Jordan and how the photograph incident was a turning point in their friendship.
We thought about our own friendships and times that we have had to forgive our friends.
We all have examples of times that we have had to forgive other people. We all agreed that it is very hard sometimes especially if precious things have been broken or if friends have hurt our feelings.
In Year 1 we recalled the story and talked about how important the picture was to Max. The children said that the picture was very special as it held a memory of a good time Max had spent with his Dad. Although Max was upset with Jordan his teacher helped him to see that really it was his own fault that the picture had been damaged as he shouldn’t have taken it outside in the first place. Year 1 were happy that Max forgave Jordan and that they shared a special time together on another exciting hill climb with a new photo taken. The children had lots of examples to share when they had fallen out with their friends and had to forgive each other and make up.
We have discussed all of the questions as a class. The photo was special to Max because it was a very special memory to him as he doesn’t see his dad as much any more. We spoke about how Max might have blamed Jordan because he was upset and angry, but actually it wasn’t his fault and Max shouldn’t really have taken such a special object outside with him. We discussed how sometimes when we are upset we might get angry, and it’s important to learn strategies to control these feelings. We thought about when we had forgiven others and when we had been forgiven by a friend.
After the story about Max and Jordan we hear in assembly in Foundation we spoke about friendships and how important it is to say sorry if we upset someone- even if it was an accident.
Zachary- One day I was walking like this and my hand bumped into somebody. I had to say sorry so they didn’t get sad.
Poppy- I never hurt people in school but sometimes I say say to Ethan (Poppy’s baby brother). It makes him happy again.
Alex- We play Lego lots in school. Sometimes I forget and break my friends’ Lego. But then I say sorry and they feel better.
Aimee- I was playing with Ellie- Mae and I accidentally pushed her a little bit. I said sorry and now we are friends again.
The photograph that Jordan broke was special to Max because it was a reminder of his Dad. Even though Jordan broke it it was actually Max’s fault because he disobeyed his Mum and took it outside. Yes Max forgave Jordan because at the end of the story he took him up Ben Nevis in the holiday with his Dad. Unlike this story I have never had to forgive a friend.
I think it was Max’s fault because he knew it was precious to him but he still brought it in.If I had to bring something in and it is really important to me I would just bring in something like my faviroute rock or something.
The photograph was very special to Max because it reminded him of his dad. Max took the photograph out side and Gordon kicked the football at the photograph. It was Max’s fault it got broken because he took it outside. The teacher stopped Max from hitting Gordon. Max forgave Gordon and took him to climb a mountain. We always have to forgive and forget and then we are all still friends in the end.
