Haydn has been in the garden and the supermarket looking at the different types of apples, he has enjoyed this task as it involves his favourite colour green.
We have been talking about purple food- Daniel likes purple coloured grapes! We found aubergine and purple cabbage were good colours too.
We have found there are lots of different apples, Daniel liked the name Granny Smith the best!
We noticed that some apples were green but different to each other like golden delicious and Granny Smith- Daniel said the Granny Smith was a bit speckled but golden delicious had a smooth green skin.
We also spotted that the pink lady apples were more red than pink!
We have had lots of fun looking at different types of apples!Harvey’s favourite apples are pink ladys! He finds the name Granny Smiths very funny!!Granny Smiths are the greenest apple we found, this was closely followed by the golden delicious apple but we decided that these were more yellow than green. We spoke about Gala apples as I used to buy these before the pink lady’s until Harvey told me that they were too ‘mushy’!
For purple fruit and vegetables we found…blackberries, blueberries, blackcurrants, purples grapes, plums and purple cabbage.
Zachary has been looking at pictures of different types of apples and he’s learned about: Pink Lady; Granny Smith,; Golden Delicious; Jonathan. Zachary’s favourite to eat are the Pink Lady, although he’s asking if there is a type called ‘yellow man’! He also like Golden Delicious but thinks Granny Smith taste sour and make him pull a funny face! He was laughing when we saw a type of apple called ‘Jonathan’ because that’s the name of his uncle.
For purple fruit and vegetables we managed to think of aubergine, grapes, plums and purple cabbage.
Isla and Aaliyah did their challenge together after a trip to the park and cafe!
They found Granny Smiths from Chile and when we asked them how they might have come to England from such a long way away they said on a plane. Aaliyah’s mum asked them what they thought the weather might be like in Chile and they both said chilly but we said no, it is warm which means the apples can grow!
There were also lots of apples which were red, including Pink Lady apples with stickers on.
We found lots of purple fruit and veg including grapes, plums,
figs, red onion and red cabbage. Isla’s favourite colour is purple.
Thom and Lotte went to the supermarket today with their clipboards. Lotte wrote down the different coloured apples she could see:
red and green
red only
green only.
I though some apples looked a bit yellow but Lotte disagreed. Thom wrote the list of apple names for us.
Lotte had already mentioned at home that aubergines are purple and grapes. Just to check we walked past all the fruit and vegetables in the shop to find more purple ones. We found plums, red cabbage, red onions.
Super challenge work Lotte and Thom :)I am glad you looked carefully at the purple food too, it really helped us this afternoon in ICT. Although it did make my tummy rumble when I thought about my Mum’s famous Moussaka! well done Lotte.
Ben loves eating apples and likes apple juice too. He helps me choose fruit at the supermarket. When talking about Granny Smith apples he said “yeah and there are mummy and daddy apples too”. We chatted about Coxs’, Braeburns, Gold and delicious and Bramley cooking apples.
For purple fruit/veg we came up with grapes, aubergines and blueberries.
Borys had lots of fun at the supermarket looking at different types of apples. His favourite ones are the Granny Smiths but he could not decide whether he likes the green colour or the taste better.
I think he took the “purple part” a bit too serious:) As a result we had to buy purple grapes , bag of plums, red onions, red cabbage, figs, blueberries and white&purple turnip.
Aimee enjoyed hearing about the different types of apples. Here’s what she thought of them: Golden Delicious – sounds delicious. Pink Lady is a funny name. Braeburn – she wouldn’t eat a burnt Apple. Granny Smith is a character in My Little Pony. She also learnt Gala and Cox. We looked at the purple fruit and bought some plums and grapes.
Mili enjoyed learning about different types of apples. She knew there were green and red apples.
When we looked at apples there were lots of green and red apples. Her favourite red apple is Pink Lady. Other green apples are Granny Smith and Golden delicious.
We also looked for fruit and vegetables which were purple – she found purple cabbage, broccoli, grapes and an aubergine.
Archie has been picking apples from the apple tree that we have in our garden and they are cooking apples, Archie loves nanny’s apple sponge. We went to the supermarket and we looked at some red cox’s apples they are Archie’s favourite. Also how they are light green and dark green in colour.
Jake looked at a selection of apples at home. His favourite is the Bramley apple because it’s massive! Mummy’s favourite is the Golden Delicious which is light green and Daddy’s favourite is The Jazz apple which is pink. Jake remembers there is a ‘Grandma’ apple I think he means Granny Smith! We also looked at a Braeburn apple which was half green and half red.
Ollie and I took a visit to the Supermarket and found 8 different varieties of apples. Gala caused hysterics when Ollie thought I’d said “garlic”… So he now has a new joke! The most unusual variety was from Poland called Jonagored. We also used some cooking apples from Archie’s, now infamous, apple tree to make an apple pie at the weekend. Ollie did all the mixing. Fortunately for us… He wasn’t keen on the cooked apples, due to the slippery texture. (all the more for us!).
We found lots of purple fruit and veg including Black bursa figs, red onions, red cabbage, plums, grapes etc… but we decided that the aubergine was actually black as it really did not look purple like the one in Mr Bloom’s mursery!
We had good fun doing this challenge.
We didnt get chance to go to a supermarket to look at different types of apples or a market, but we did see what apples we could find in our garden and we found some big, odd shaped green cooking apples and some smaller reddy/pink Pink lady apples. Mommy also bought some Coxs apples which were red. We will look for an aubergine at the supermarket then next time we visit there too
Joe looked at lots of apples at the Greengrocers, he thought the one that looked the tastiest was the Granny Smith apple. At home Joe eats lots of Pink Lady apples and said that they taste ‘double smooth!’ We also looked at vegetables and fruits which were purple and found blueberries, blackberries, grapes, plums, raisons, asparagus, purple peppers and a purple cabbage. Joe was really pleased that the colours we were talking about were purple and green, because they are the same colours that are on his favourite teenage ninja turtle – Donatello has a purple mask and a green body!

She also found cabbage, red onions and blueberries at the supermarket.
The first apples Isla looked at were from her Granny and Grandad’s apple tree and she commented on their small size and very bright green colour. We also had a trip to Sainsburies and, after being dragged away from the pumpkins, Isla enjoyed looking at the different sizes and colours of the apples there and learning some of their different names. She looked first at the large, bright green Bramley apples and we talked about how these are often used for pies and crumbles. Isla then looked at the paler green and pinky red Pink Lady apples, the Cox and Braeburn apples which were looking a deeper red and more yellowy green and the Royal Gala apples which were very red. Isla’s favourite were the bright green Granny Smith apples as they have the same “first name” as Granny! We also looked at some plums, red grapes, beet root and red cabbage.
