We have looked at pictures of different types of puppets on the computer. finger puppets, hand puppets and puppets which are moved by sticks. Darcy has decided she would like to make a hand puppet which will be a lovely soft black cat. She is a French cat called Darcy, she will be lovely and soft and black. She has a pink collar with ‘Darcy’ on, she has a pink nose and 1 pink eye and 1 purple eye. She also has to have sparkles!!!
Darcy is bringing in `her witch puppet, which she was given `by her friend Bethany. She is also bringing in her design for ‘French Darcy cat’.
This weekend we have looked at different puppets we know such as Kermit and Pinocchio. We realised that puppets can be controlled with a hand or by string. We liked watching a puppet show when on our holidays in Portugal last year. We looked on Mummy’s Pinterest site for ideas of puppets and have decided a sock puppet looks the most fun to make. We have each chosen what we would like to make and using mummy’s craft cupboard found ‘things’ we could use to make them and then we drew pictures of them. We can’t wait to make them now.
This weekend we looked at the theme of puppets. In Vietnam we have a tradition of water puppets which have been around for 900 years. The puppets move around in a pool of water. We watched it on Youtube and it was good. We also watched some other examples of puppets which include Thunderbirds, Rosie and Jim, Punch and Judy, Sooty and Sweep.
Today we have looked online at images of Puppets and Joel was very fascinated by the traditional wooden style like Pinocchio! We decided to design a Sock Puppet and have collected things from Joel’s craft kit at home and an old sock!
Joel really enjoyed making Puppet themed pizza today and surprised me by eating it all (even the Mushrooms!) before we’d even left school!
Over the weekend we looked on the internet at all different kind of puppets, from sock puppets to Pinocchio and Kermit the frog, Jamie liked the idea of making a spider sock puppet, so we raided daddy’s sock draw to find a odd black sock which we thought would be perfect for his spider.
Jamie then drew the spider which he wants to create in to a puppet, he wants to use black paper for his wiggley legs.

Fantastic, well done Darcy you have planned your puppet very carefully! Can you ask your Parents if they had puppets when they were little?

We look forward to seeing your finished creations! What will you need to stick things together?

That sounds super Jamie, what could you use to stick all of those legs on?
