What do people do on this day?
Sam – love each other and give gifts and cards
What do you remember about the story of Valentine ?
Lexi – Valentine went against the Roman law and he secretly married people. He then got arrested for this and met a blind lady (the prison guard’s daughter).
What happened at the Roman festival called Lupercalia?
Georgia – people picked names out to see who they would be going out with for the night. I think this isn’t very fair because people may not be comfortable.
Would you like to do this?
Year 6 mostly think that this would be very strange and would make everyone uncomfortable.
How do we celebrate Valentine’s Day?
Lily – by giving presents and cards to each other
Riley – maybe go out for a nice meal
Milly – show affection to each other

Year 1 remembered that St Valentine was mad as he wanted recruits for his army but nobody wanted to join up as they wanted to stay home to be near the ones that they loved.
At the Roman festival Lupercalia a boy’s name was drawn out of one box and from another box a girl’s name was drawn out and they were placed together to build a friendship. (Elsie)
All of year 1 thought that wasn’t a good idea and wasn’t fair.
Minnie celebtrated Valentine’s day with a nice meal at the pub. Rosie made cards to give the people she loves. Kyton said his step dad gave his Mum her favourite heart chocolates!

In Year 4, we agreed that pairing couples together at the festival wasn’t the right thing to do. People should be able to pick who they love and want to be with.
