Jacob – because during the current times with covid, we have to think how far we have come with our health services.

We talked about her being a very determined, kind and hard working woman who wasn’t put off by comments that she shouldn’t be working because she was a woman.
Reuben agreed that she was right to gain her medal as she had done amazing things for hospitals!
A number of children talked about a time they had been in hospital. They recalled how well looked after they had been.
Year 1 loved the assembly this morning and were able to tell me lots of things that they had learnt about Florence Nightingale.
Molly said she was a nurse who helped soldiers get better during the Crimean War.
Charlie R said she made sure the soldiers ate good food to help them get better.
Liliana said that she trained nurses and was a good leader.
Flossie said she was known as the lady with the lamp.
Neave said that she was awarded a medal by Queen Victoria for her amazing work.
Finnley told us that she wrote letters home to the soldiers to their families.
Lots of children had visited hospital and all said how kind, friendly and helpful the nursing staff had been.
We all agreed that nurses do an amazing job and have had a very difficult year dealing with Covid 19 in hospitals.
About 8 children in year 1 would like to be a doctor or nurse.
Year 4 knew lots about Florence Nightingale. They knew that she carried a lamp when she used to check upon all of her patients and that’s why she became known as the Lady of the Lamp, We talked about how se improved hospitals by making sure that they were clean and that patients had the right food to eat. She definitely needed to be awarded with a medal.
She proved to everyone that women could make a real difference with the work they had did. She trained nurses so that more people could follow in her footsteps and make a difference.
Nurses work hard and this year they have worked harder than ever with Covid. They have put their own lives at risk. Year 4 shared examples of people that we know that are nurses/ doctors. They are all amazing and we value the work that they do enormously.
