Why do you think it is important to celebrate differences?
Ava – it doesn’t matter if you are different because that’s what makes us unique.
Alice – No matter who you are, you are always going to be you and always be special as there is only one of you.
How are you different to your friends?
Different hair colours/styles, different eye colours, different shoe sizes, some wear glasses and some don’t, genders, personalities, eyebrow shapes, skills, freckles or not freckles and facial features.
How are you the same as your friends?
We go to the same school, we wear the same school clothes, we are all kind to each other, we like to play the same things, some of our friends have the same pets and the same interests.
How does this story link to ‘The Barnabus Project’ story?
Lily – in the Peacock story, the Peacock was different to the pigeons and in the Barnabus Project, they are all different to each other.
What did Peter learn about himself in this story?
Archie – all the other birds are different, and he is different and that is ok.
Freya S – He learnt that he was unique.
We are all different because we have different personalities and looks. We are the same because we are all living things and do the same things to survive (Eat and drink).
Peter learnt that just because he is a ‘bird’, it doesn’t mean that he has to be the same as everyone else, he is allowed to be different and unique. Peter thought that his feathers were too blue and girly. He learnt that it doesn’t matter what he looks like, its about who he is as a person.
This links to Barnabus because it also celebrates difference but that doesn’t make it bad or wrong and everyone can have a different view or opinion.
Year 3 really enjoyed this story and understood the message in the story.

Madison- he tried to walk like the others and he covered himself.
We talked about people not needing to change who they are to fit in.
How did he feel?
Elsie-Rai- sad and unsafe
We explored the words, ‘I didn’t belong’.
We said this was very sad. We discussed how lucky we are to belong to…a family, a home , a class and a school.

Molly said she has long straight blonde hair and this is different to her friends. Frankie said he is the same as his friends as they have 2 ears like him for listening. Liliana said that year 1 are the same as they are all wearing their PE kits today.
Year 1 loved the story and said that Peter learned to love himself in the story for who he was.
Imogen A told us that Miss Mason had chosen the Barnabus story and Peter and the Pigeons to show that it was good to be unique and it makes you a special person. Liliana said it means you are one of a kind.
Teddy said that he is special because he is kind.

It is similar Barnabus because Peter is like the failed projects and Barnabus.
Year 2 enjoyed the story a lot. They spoke about how it linked to the Barnabus story and we talked about what it meant to be ‘unique’. We talked about differences and how we celebrate our differences.
We spoke about the fact that we all have lot in common like our school, class and our age but none of us are exactly alike. Some of the children talked about moments in history where people were treated differently because they didn’t look a certain way.
We spoke about being proud of who we are and how the Peacock and Barnabus were both proud of who they were despite people thinking they weren’t their idea of perfect. We spoke about not covering up the best parts of our personality or appearance but celebrating them. We also linked this to ‘The Greatest Showman’ and talked about how we were showing the importance of being proud through our dance to ‘This is me’.
Foundation 2 enjoyed the story of “A Peacock Among Pigeons”. Morwenna explained that Peter was happy that he was different to other birds and that’s how Barnbus felt in “The Barnabus Project.” As a class we spoke about the importance of celebrating difference. We spoke about how we are different to our friends.
Oliver said his hair is a different colour to his friend. Chloe C said she likes to wear different clothes. Esme said she has a different eye colour to her friend.
