  1. Year 2 says:

Year 2 talked about the Tortoise and the Hare today.
Holly K told us that the tortoise won because he believed in himself.
Maya said that ‘slow and steady wins the race’.
Gwen explained that the tortoise never gave up and kept going.
We talked how we need to be the tortoise in class. Not to be the first to finish like the hare, but try our best, put in a lot more details and keep going like the tortoise.

Some of the tricky things we have overcome where: being afraid to jump into the pool, playing a game at the arcade and riding our bike.

    Year 5:
What is self – belief ?
When you believe in yourself and don’t give up on anything.

Year 5 really enjoyed listening to the story about the tortoise and the hard – lots of us had heard this story before.
Why did the tortoise succeed – is he really faster than the hare?
We think the tortoise did well because he gave it his all. He’s not really faster than the hare but the hare was trying to show off.

What did the tortoise do to make the most of his strengths?
He kept goin and never gave up.

Dylan said that he was once scared about jumping off a bouncy castle but he gave a go and it wasn’t that bad after all.
Ollie was at a skatepark and was worried about doing a backflip, but with some encouragement he gave it a go and it was fun!
Ellis didn’t think he was going to win at dodgeball but he ended up winning.
Ava went toZpworld and was scared to go onto a ride but she found out that there was brakes, so gave it ago and it was ok.
Milly went to GoApe and went on the trickiest challenge, but she gave it ago and it was ok.

Year 6 shared the story of the Hare and the Tortoise.

Ross – The tortoise succeeded because the Hare started to show off – this meant he lost concentration and as he was too busy boasting, the tortoise managed to overtake him whilst he was sleeping.

Zachary started a new football team and he told us that initially he was nervous as he didn’t think he was good enough. He perservered and had self belief and he was then chosen to be in the team.
Elodie shared with us that in Gymnastics she was trying to land a back hand spring and she believed she would eventually succeed and after a couple of weeks, she did it!
Borys was in the semi final of a football match which went to penalties! He believed in himself and the team and they won the match 5-4!

Year 6 talked about how sometimes when people rush in Maths, they make silly mistakes but if you take your time and slow down, you should get the questions corrcect.
“SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE”

  4. Year 3 says:

Year 3 listened to the story of the Tortoise and the Hare. We talked about why the tortoise won the race and the fact that he took his time and was steady. The tortoise had self belief which means that he believed in himself. The hare was over confident and complacent. Year 3 shared examples of times when they have found things hard but they believed in themselves and were positive which meant that they were able to succeed.

We explored how we can look at peoples’ body language to work out how they are feeling. We talked about how we are all different and special. We explored what makes each of us special.

  5. foundation says:

Foundation 2 enjoyed sharing the story of “The Hare and the Tortoise.” Before we read the story we took a vote in class as I asked the children if they thought the hare or the tortoise would win the race. Lots of the children voted for the hare but once we had read the story they changed their minds!

We also spoke about self belief and how it is always important to “keep on trying” with tasks and activities.

  6. Year 1 says:

Year 1 talked together about what is self-belief. Liliana gave us a great explanation. She said it is when you believe in yourself and that belief helps you to achieve good things. Lots of the children said they had self belief and gave examples such as learning to ride a bike, learning to skip, learning to write their names, learning their alphabet, learning to count to 100. They said that when things are hard you have to keep on trying until you succeed.
Year 1 loved listening to the story of the Hare and the Tortoise. They told me that the tortoise succeeded because he kept on going and did not give up. We talked about the fact that the tortoise had self belief and although the hare told him that he was far faster than him and that he would never win a race, he kept on believing that he could succeed!
Nobody could think of a situation that they had been in when they didn’t give up but we chatted about a scenario of somebody learning to ride a scooter and the fact that they might have fallen off a few times before they succeeded.
Tomorrow we will think about feelings and self-esteem.

  7. Year 1 says:

Year 1 all told me they are so happy to be back in school and are enjoying being with their friends and like their new classroom. Today we watched the powerpoint slides on feelings and self-esteem. We loved looking and talking about these. We all know that we are unique and have different likes and dislikes. Sometimes we are similar to our friends and sometimes we are different. Everyone in year 1 is special and some of the children told us why.
    Flossie said she likes running.
Zac said he likes exercising especially going on his scooter.
Jenny said she likes watching football.
Teddy said he is good at building lego.
Mellehia said she likes watching animal programmes on the television.
Sofia said she likes riding her bike.
Aiden said he likes playing video games.
Imogen said she likes reading books and likes to help others.
Molly said she likes to be friendly to others when they are lonely.
Frankie told us that he likes building things out of construction and said he is good at it.

We talked a lot about speaking politely and positively to others and agreed that having high self-esteem can help you to do well in and out of school.

    Ajay yr5
