  1. Adah says:

It makes me feel calm because a mountain can’t move.

It makes me think of a mountain with snow on top and a forest below filled with animals.

It is not my favourite because it does not have any action in it, but I do like the idea of a mountain being high up.

In the first bit chair and everywhere rhyme and in the second bit knees and he mostly rhyme, so it’s a half rhyming poem.

  2. HApr says:

It makes me feel like the mountain is the king of the land

The first half of the poem does rhyme but the second half doesn’t.

  3. Lexi Coates says:

    The Mountain!
It make me feel calm because when I think of a mountain I think of a Icy wind and freezing snowflakes.

It makes me think of a huge mountain full of Ice and snow and birds flying all around it.

I like THE MOUNTAIN because it is very mysterious and cool, but in didn’t have much action in it.

In the poem some bits rhyme like Chair and Everywhere but other bits don’t rime so this poem is half rhyming.

  4. Lily shields says:

    The Mountain!
It makes me feel calm and relaxed because it is sitting still in its eternal chair

some of it rhymes and some of it does not

It is not my favourite poem because like other people said it does not have that much action in it it would be better if it exploded

    love lily xx

  5. Ellis Kavanagh says:

I found the poem very mysterious, a few of the words I don’t know but I did notice that it rhymes in the first part, but not in the second. It doesn’t describe the mountain very well, just that it is old.

  6. Neil says:

The poem makes me feel like I’m on the top of Mount Everest!
    Some of the words rhyme.
    Rhyming Words:
    Chair and everywhere
If the poet used poetic freedom on ancestor and turned it to ancestir it would rhyme with sire.

    • Mrs Arnold says:

Oh wow Neil, that is an excellent response to the poem. You have really thought about the structure. Well done.

    THE MOUNTAIN – Emily Dickinson

I like it a little bit, my mum and I talked about the poem and what it is saying. So because a mountain has been there for a very long time is what it means by the Grandfather and that season go on around it. It does not really rhyme only a little bit when it talks about the chair and everywhere.

    • Mrs Arnold says:

Fantastic Riley, that’s exactly what the poem is trying to say. It is likening the mountain to a person which is personification. Well done, a brilliant response.

  8. 14JNorris says:

    The Mountain :
It makes me feel kind of bored and relaxed. Bored because the mountain is sitting there like a lemon. Relaxed because the seasons go past it and it would be nice to see all the birds flying around it.

As others have said half the poem rhymes and the rest doesn’t.

    • Mrs Arnold says:

Thanks for your response, James. I’m pleased it has made you feel relaxed and that you could imagine birds flying past. Well done.

  9. milly says:

I liked this poem because it gave me an idea of what the mountin would look like in my head. Some of the words rhyme and some don’t. I would prefer if all the words rhymed.

  10. Charlie says:

It makes me think the mountain is the king, some words rhyme and some don’t – which I like!
It also makes me feel calm and relaxed after reading it.

    • Mrs Arnold says:

Well done Charlie, I’m pleased this makes you feel calm and relaxed. Great idea that the mountain is like the King, that’s exactly what the poet wants you to liken the mountain to. I’m pleased that you like that some words rhyme and some don’t!

  11. ORey says:

It was a good poem. I found it quite hard to understand and if Mum hadn’t of explained it to me, I probably would have missed a lot of the meaning. I found it quite “peaceful”.

    • Mrs Arnold says:

Well done Oliver, you’re right the poem is quite tricky but once you get the hang of what it means, everything starts to make a bit more sense. I’m pleased you found it peaceful. It made me feel peaceful and calm too!
