Year 1 told me that we wear poppies to remember people who have died or been wounded in conflicts. We can also buy slap bands and wristbands, metal badges, pencils and pens to raise money for those families who have lost loved ones or who have been affected by wartime.
Hollie said it is important we remember as those soldiers gave up their lives for us so we can live in times of peace. Gwen said the royal family lead a service in London to remember all those lives that have been lost every year in November on the Sunday nearest the 11th.
Year 2 reflected on the different ways that people remember on the 11th. We talked about how people wear poppies and sometimes take part in parades or go to church.
We also talked about the things that cause arguments in school and at home. We agreed that it is much better to try and resolve conflicts than let situations get worse.
For remembrance day, we took part in a live webinar. It explained what WW1 was and what happened. We found out that it started by a man shooting two bullets at the prince and princess. We asked live questions and our was answered! All of the schools watching heard. This was the first time we had done a webinar and it was really fun and interesting. Year 6 would love to do one again.
