We found out that Julia used her money to give to the violinist in the park. She had asked him to teach her how to play the violin. She used her new skill to work as a busker with her teacher playing music to people to earn more money.
Year 1 had a difference of opinion with some saying that Alex was the winner as he saved all his money whereas some said that Julia was smarter and should have been the winner. she had used her money to help her to make more money. We said this was like our Enterprise activities in school.
Matilda said she would have saved a lot of her money and spent a little. max said he would have used his money to make cakes to make even more money. Poppy said she would sell ice creams to make more money. Edward said he would have a bring and buy sale to make money.
Most of year 1 said they were good at saving money. Finley would save to buy a new football. Charlie R said he would save for some holiday toys like a bat and ball. Ellis said he would like to buy a villa kit. Ben said he wanted a Juventus top. Archie said he would like a PS4.
Year 1 enjoyed the story and remembered the work we had done this year all about saving and spending!
Year 5:
We liked the story we heard in assembly and enjoyed learning that Julia become a professional violin player.
Who do you think the real winner was?
Alex because he saved all his money.
During My Money Week we have looked at tax and VAT. We looked at different salaries and made budgeting decisions on what we should by. We looked whether we should rent or buy a house, what holiday we could afford, whether we could afford a car or whether we should use public transport. It was really interesting and we learnt a lot!
Are you good at saving money? What would you like to save up for?
Some of Year 5 are good at saving money, other children say the are not. We would like to buy different things: something small to save some money still, an iPhone, a dog, new trainers, Nintendo switch, season tickets and a house.
We had a chat in year 2 about the story and we realized that Alex was the real winner because he saved all of his money. Lots of us in year 2 said that we are really good at saving money when we get it. Some of us get pocket money and some of us get money for our birthday. We like saving up our money to buy something really special. Some of us save it in a piggy bank and some of us save it in a bank.
Milly remembered that Julia gave the man in the park some of her money and the man taught her violin and then they played a duet together. Riley says that instead of buying sweets he would have bought his mum and dad a present. Alice think Julia was the real winner because she saved her money and was generous and then was able to learn the violin. It is something she can use for the rest of her life. Anaya thinks Alex is the winner because he saved EVERY penny and he then has money in case he needs anything important straight away. Saving money is super important and Anaya saves her money like Alex does. Most of year 3 enjoyed this story and learnt the lessons from it.
The children in Year 4 spoke about money and how they manage it. Children said they are saving for the following:
Ben – is saving for a Nintendo
Elodie – is saving for a hover-board
Zach – saved for two years for an X-Box
Isla – is saving for an iphone
Mili – is saving up for an ipad
William – is saving up for an Nintendo
Fin- I saved up for a headset
During MyMoney week, children in Year 4 looked at the different types of property they could afford in different loactions given a certain budget. They looked at things like shared ownership and investing to learn about how some people spend their money.
We looked at Tax and VAT and how tax is more now than it was before 2011. We looked at how the government uses the money it collects as tax and whether we agreed with how much was spent in certain areas.
Year 4 enjoyed the assembly and learning about Julia.
