Gerald had a lot of difficulty dancing. The other animals laughed and made fun of him when he tried to dance. Gerald’s new little friend a cricket helped him see that he probably could dance nicely if he had his own special music. Gerald proved that he could dance with the right music and it was fantastic!
In Year 3 we can be resilient by:
Alice – If you have a question in maths, try and think of a different way to do it.
Laila – In PE keep practicing your skills until you can do it!
Lily – If you get stuck in English you should keep reading the question until it makes sense.
Jacob – You can be resilient by ‘Try and try again’
James – If questions are hard, don’t give up, keep going and try again
Anaya – In Science if somethiing doesn’t make sense ask 3 people before you ask the teacher for help.
Riley – If you are on Amber and Red you can work hard to get back on Green and make it better.
We enjoyed and had different parts of the story that we really liked:
– Georgia liked when the cricket helped Gerald
– FreyaS was when Gerald did the backwards summersault
-Connor liked watching Gerald run
– Adah liked watching Gerald dance
We all enjoyed this story and we are going to try and be resilient.
Foundation really enjoyed ‘Giraffes can’t dance’. Foundation where able to talk about how the other animals made Gerald feel sad and how Gerald felt when he spoke with Cricket. Gwen told us that Gerald was sad when he couldn’t dance because it made him feel different.
Alfie explained that cricket was a good friend because he made Gerald realise he could dance.
Holly said we should keep trying when we find maths difficult – for instance we might try counting on a number line and find this very hard so we might try counting on our fingers instead.
Reuben liked it when Gerald could dance and Rio thought it was funny when he did back flips.
The children in year 1 loved this story. Poppy told us that Gerald had a problem with dancing. Reuben said that the other animals made fun of him as Gerald wasn’t a good dancer. He said that this must have upset Gerald and hurt his feelings. Matilda told us that the moon and the cricket helped Gerald to think differently and not to give up on himself. Matilda said that Gerald needed to find a different way of doing things. He had to be resilient! William said that Gerald proved to the other animals that he really could dance and at the end of the story he was the best dancer!!
Poppy told us that she had to be resilient when she learned to ride her bike. Reuben said he had to keep trying when he was learning to tie his shoe laces as he didn’t manage it straight away! Edward said it took him ages to learn how to use the gears on his bike properly. Charlie said when he first learnt to run he kept falling but the more he practised the better he became! Elsie said she is working hard to improve her drawing skills.
Archie said his favourite part of the story was when the cricket helped Gerald to think differently. Libby said she enjoyed the ending when all the animals were amazed at how good Gerald had become at dancing.
Year 1 agreed that it was important that we are all resilient as we tackle our school work and challenges at home too. Keep on trying until you succeed!
Year 4 loved the story ‘Giraffes can’t dance’ The children said the following:
Archie – Gerald had a problem with dancing
Ajay – The animals laughed at Gerald because he couldn’t dance
Zach – The cricket helped Gerald to dance and know that he could do it too
Alex – Gerald proved that giraffes can dance
Jake – Gerald was resilient, he was brave enough to show the other animals that they can dance
Isla – I would change that everyone would be able to dance
Elodie – My favourite part of the story was when Gerald started to dance because he was afraid but then gain confidence
Daniel – My favourite part of the story was when Gerald did a back-flip
We really enjoyed listening to this story. Gerald the giraffe thought that he couldn’t dance because his legs were too long and skinny. The other animals made fun of him. His friend the cricket played some music that he knew Gerald would love. As soon as Gerald heard the music he moved and danced in ways that amazed all the other animals!
Year 3 could see how resilient Gerald was and suggested that they should always persevere and never give up even when they feel frustrated or people might be making fun of them. The children all thought about a subject or a skill that they need to be more resilient with.
These were our favourite parts:
Lily-Grace – When all the animals watched the Giraffe dance really well.
Maisie – When Gerald bowed and flowers were thrown at him.
Danny – When Gerald flew into the air.
Sebastian – When the Cricket told the Giraffe that he could find his own special tune.
Charlie – When Gerald somersaulted.
Year 6 have been incredibaly resilient this week as it has been SATS week!
Some of us started to lose confidence throughout the year but we stuck at it and worked so hard!
It has shown us that if we really try hard, even if we find something difficult, the outcome can be a positive one.
Year 5:
What did Gerald have a problem with?
Everybody was going to the jungle dance and he couldn’t because he didn’t know how to dance.
Why did the other animals make fun of Gerald?
Because they were saying that giraffes can’t dance and that the were all dancing amazingly but he couldn’t dance at all.
Who helped Gerald to see things differently and not give up?
The cricket
What did Gerald prove to the other animals?
That giraffes can dance and that anyone can dance or do anything if you believe in yourself
