Year 6 have been looking forward to Science week. They have produced some really good projects!
Satra – The journey of a blood cell.
Zak – The journey around the sun.
Daisy B – The journey of a wild horse.
Ronika – The journey of the digestive system.
Georgia M – The journey of evolution.
Phoebe – The journey of light.
Amber – The journey of a sky-diver.
Lily – The journey of an aeroplane.
Tianna-Mae – The life cycle of a salmon and where does it go?
Daisy W – The journey of the digestive system.
Georgia P – The migration of an arctic tern.
Poppy – The journey from Earth to Mars.
Emma – The journey of electricity.
Ella – The journey to the moon.
Ethan – How does electricity travel?
Kya – The water cycle.
Eve – Sound travel and evolution.
Holly – The journey of a rocket.
Jacob S – The journey of digestion.
Charlie – The food chain.
Jacob C – The journey of oxygen around the body.
Emma has been on a very long journey, many times, to South Africa, the country where she was born. She travels by plane and it takes about 17-20 hours. The weather is always hot and even in winter the temperature is around 17 degrees Celsius. South Africa is 2 hours ahead of the UK.
Tianna-Mae travels by car when she goes on holiday to Cornwall. It is about 250 miles away and takes around 4 hours.
There is no time difference in Cornwall.
We had a fantastic response to the Science projects in year 1. Noor-ul, Elsie, William, Matilda and Madison looked at the life cycle of a butterfly. Charlie R looked at the life cycle of a frog. Joe looked at the journey of a honey bee. Poppy did her project about the life cycle of a chicken. Libby, Reuben and Ben studied the digestive system and what happens when we eat our food. Charlie, Ellis, Sophia, Phoebe and Ethan studied journeys in Space. Edward found out about how electricity gets to our homes and how it is made. Elliot looked at the journey of a dinosaur to a fossil. Zach did an experiment to find out how to make dirty water clean. He predicted, tested and recorded his results. Dylan and Alex studied the water cycle.
We talked about the scientist Ernest Shackleton who was a polar explorer and how he led three British expeditions to the Antarctic. He is believed to be the person who came closest to reaching the South Pole.
The children told me about Tim Peake and how he had travelled in Space.
Elliot told us about his recent trip to Dubai by taxi and aeroplane and we talked about the diesel used to fuel a taxi and aviation fuel for the aircraft. The children said that walking was the most economical way to travel! Elliot said that his body had been confused when he had travelled through the different time zones. When he got to Dubai in February it was sunny and hot there.
Year 1 are excited about presenting their projects and sharing their ideas this week.
We have really enjoyed Science Week in Year 3.
Here are some of the amazing things we have done:
* Lily really enjoyed listening to other people explain their projects
* Ellis learnt loads of information about the Water Cycle
* We ALL made our own projects at home with mum and dad and grandad and brother and sisters and brought them in to share with our class.
* Neil and Megan enjoyed the activity where we transferred electrons to a balloon and made pieces of paper, an egg and a feather move through the air! Megan also learnt about FRICTION.
* We attempted to explode our volcanoes with soda bubbles and mentos. This did NOT work so we might try again another time. Eva wished the explosion had been much bigger!
* We even enjoyed Miss Payne showing us her project about bees!
We are starting to understand how important journeys are in Science and they come in many different forms.
In year 4 there were a lot of children that decided to do the journey of the water cycle, we also had children that did different journeys such as – the journey of Mars, the journey of clean water, the journey of transport and the journey of solar energy.
We talked about the famous exploreres and what they found out for our world.
We also spoke about traveling to different countries, being in different time zones and being jet lagged. We then spoke about the most efficient mode of trevel and the most common types of fuel.
Zachary went to Bangkok and he travelled there by plane and got around in a taxi. It was 35°C and the humidity was 85%/ It took 11 hours for him to get there.
Ben went to Florida and also flew on a plane and got to the airport by his car and from the American airport by hire car.
The temperature was about 33°C and 83°F. He went over the Christmas period.
