It is important to celebrate books because they teach us so much and there are so many different types of books to choose from. There is a book for everyone to enjoy no matter what their favourite types of stories or interests are.
My favourite books are Dork Diaries (Skating Sensation) as it is really funny and I enjoy funny books.
The first speech bubble means that we can escape into the story of the book no matter where we are.
The second speech bubble means that when we read we are exercising our brain and expanding our mind and this keeps our minds active and healthy. I am looking forward to the assembly on Monday!
Year 6 think that it is important to celebrate books because it is a great distraction from mobile phones, ipads and gaming consoles! They can help you escape into another world for a while.
We know that the more we read, the better our comprehension, writing and spelling skills will be and it is good to be engrossed in a book that you enjoy. Reading helps us when we are older. When we apply for jobs or if we ever have to sign anything important, we need to understand what we are signing for.
There are so many different types of books in the world – it would be a very boring world without them!
Mariyams favourite books are the ‘Harry Potter’ series. They are very detailed and Mariyam really likes the characters.
Ambers favourite series are the ‘Dork Diary’ books because they are fun to read and not too formal. They are written in a diary format.

In the story in assembly, the witches wanted to cast a spell to make people like unhealthy food and stop eating the right things. One of the witches said part of the spell incorrectly and everything went wrong! The witches ended up in a small bottle and a boy drank the potion. He started to like unhealthy foods as the witches were inside him. Dr Fitton Helthie told the boy to eat healthy food to get rid of the badness in his stomach.

We talked about a book taking you to the place you are reading about. We also found out today all about The Great Fire of London and learnt lots and lots of new facts and loved this true story. This book made us think about what it must have been like for the people caught up in the fire in 1666.
Sourface suggested that the witches mix all the potions to make people unhealthy and unhappy. The boy who found the potion drank it and it made him ill. Luckily Doctor Fitton-Helthie told everyone to eat fruit and vegetables to stay healthy. We are trying to eat more fruit and vegetables in year 1!!
I think it’s important to celebrate books because you can share the books you like and enjoy with other people. Books allow you to calm down when stressed and relax you at bedtime. Books can take you anywhere into your imagination and it can paint a picture in your head. My favourite books are Dork Diaries, Tom Gates and David Walliams books.
My favourite book is The Cat in the Hat. I like it because it has funny parts that make me laugh like when Thing 1 and Thing 2 bump into everything and fly kites around the house. Books are good because they make your brain stronger.

Finley – Barry Loser books
Ben, Elodie, Ajay – Harry Potter
Isla – World’s Wosrst Children

Zeb has explained that when he reads it creates pictures in his mind and he feels as though he has fallen into the story.
Jacob says that reading exercises your brain by teaching you new words, helps your writing and the more you use your brain the stronger it gets.
On World Book Day we made chocolate cake by reading recipes and while we ate the chocolate cake we watched Michael Rosen tell us a story about Chocolate Cake.
