Year 1 enjoyed listening to the story of Savannah the Swallow. Elliot told us that She had a long journey and had to keep going. Finley said she had 3000 miles to travel. Ellis said that Savannah needed food and water to keep her going so she could continue flying. Elsie said it was a dangerous journey. Max said she flew very quickly.
Edward told us that it was her group of friends who kept her going. He said that together they helped each other through the dangers on the journey looking out for each other to make sure they stayed safe.
Theo said that we learn form the story not to give up but to keep on going to achieve our goals.
Year 1’s top tips to keep their new year goals are:
– Keep on going.
– Never give up.
– Believe in yourself.
– Take small steps.
– Be resilient.
– Persevere when things get tough.
– Use your friends, family and teachers to help you succeed.
Year 2 talked about the story of Savannah. We chatted about the challenges that Savannah faced on her journey to Sccotland such as having to face different weather conditions, and dangerous predators. Savannah kept going in the story by being resilient and having her friends to help her to keep going.
We can learn a lot from the story about being resilient which will help us to achieve our goals. We know that we need to keep trying, never give up and believe in ourselves. We also need to be good friends to one another and help each other to be resilient when we face challenges.
In Year 4 we discussed the story of Savannah. We talked about her journey and how she does it every year. She had her friends to keep her going and do the jouney with.
We discussed what it means to be resilient some top tips are:
Alex – Speak words of encouragement and tell the person they are doing really well.
Elodie – Give them something motivational at the end
Harvey – Remind people how close they are to finishing something
Jake – Help the person by giving them what they need to succeed
Ross – Tell the person to try to push themseleves to the limit
Poppy – Tell the person to keep trying and don’t give up
Adam – Tell the person you believe in them
Mrs Arnold was very impressed with the responses from the class!
Foundation 2 talked about how to reach their goals and achieve their targets. They decided that the best way to
achieve their goals was to :
– Always try their best.
-Have lots of help and support from family members.
– Keep going
– Have lots of practise.
-Enjoy a challenge
Savannah the swallow had to fly all the way from Africa to Scotland and this took her a few weeks. She flew thousands of miles.
She had to face larger birds of prey so Savannah had to keep hiding in trees.
Her friends helped her to overcome her obstacles.
Phoebe’s New Years resolution is to try and stop worrying so much – she is going to try and be braver to help her become more resilient.
Year 6 will show resilience by,
Keeping focused
Not giving up so easily
Keep trying hard to achieve our resolutions
Work hard to overcome obstacles
Not putting pressure on ourselves
Be kinder to each other
Stop worrying what other people think
Challenging ourselves.
Year 5 says:
What challenges did the swallow face?
The swallow had to try and not get eaten by other birds that were bigger than her, they also had to make a long journey and go through deserts without food or water. She couldn’t eat a lot on the journey so she had to prepare and eat a lot before the journey.
What helped her to overcome them?
She had her friend with her, she had to have good strength, good resilience and also persevere.
What can we learn from the story?
Keep going and never give up, that working as a group can always help.
Year 3 remembered when we watched a story last year (in Year 2) about the robin to who travelled a long distance to get home. The story about Savannah reminded us of this. We enjoyed the story and it was a good reminder to JUST KEEP GOING!
This week in maths we’ve been practising our times tables and even though some of them are tricky to remember we have to keep going until we have learnt them all. Now in Year 3 we are keeing track of which times tables we know and and which ones we need to KEEP LEARNING. We can’t just give up because we need our times tables to do other maths like counting, division, fractions and solving problems. So we NEED to learn them. We are going to keep going and going until we all know them really fast.
There are other things outside of school we keep practising too! Year 3 gave lots of examples of things we do at home and in clubs where we need to have resilience.
