We can see lots of dangers from the picture: playing football on the pavement, a child is standing between two cars, someone is crossing behind the bus and someone is flying a kite on the pavement which could block a vehicles view.
When we cross a road we should use the Green Cross Code – STOP, LOOK and LISTEN.
Year 6 have some good advice to use the roads safely. Tianne-Mae says we should find a safe place to cross where we can see all directions clearly.
Ella says make sure we are not crossing on a bend.
Daisy W says always look and listen whilst you are crossing and not just once. You should be constantly looking and listening.
Year1 shared lots of ideas about the picture and spotted lots of dangers. Elsie Rai noticed the children on the road. Ellis said there were children playing football on the footpath. Elliot said there was a girl hanging on the back of the bus. Finley said there was someone hanging out of a car window waving and they weren’t wearing a seatbelt. There was a dog not on a lead. Alex said there was a boy playing with his kite on the side of the road.
To cross a road you need to

– Make sure you cross the road when you can see clearly not on a hill or bend (Poppy)
– Stop, look and listen. (Charlie)
– Stay with a parent. (Libby)
– Use a zebra crossing or a pedestrian crossing (Max)

Year 1 had lots of good ideas and enjoyed talking about road safety. They all agreed they need to do some good thinking and follow the advice we talked about to keep themselves safe.
When we think of road safety we think ‘look and listen’ to make sure we do this before we cross the road.
In the picture we can see several potential dangers such as: a person is not walking on the zebra crossing, people are playing football near the road, one of the people has hteir hand outside the car, someone is flying a kite, someone messing on the bike near the road.
What is the GREEN CROSS CODE?
Think
Stop
Look and listen
Wait
Look and listen again
Arrive alive
