Foundation did very well remembering the assembly today.
Sebby talked about doing good things with our hands like sharing, eating, washing, drawing and writing.
We talked about what bad things we shouldnt do with our hands like punching, hitting, not washing our hands.
Dylan said that words where like the squirty cream because you cant put them back once said.
Foundation suggested that we could use our hands this week to paint, colour but also to put our hands up when wanting to say something in class and holding hands.
Holly said that we should be nice to make the school a happy place.
Year 2 talked about how our hands can show respect to others. Our hands can help others if they are hurt or they can tidy our classroom. We use our hands to write and make things in school. We talked about how we must not hurt others using our hands.
This week we are going to keep our classroom tidy and especially try hard with our writing. We also talked about making sure our hands are clean before we eat. Keeping our hands safe and making sure we don’t pick up sharp objects.
Our hands are really important to us because they help us do lots of things.
We discovered through our conversation that there are so many things that you do with your hands. Our ideas were eating (Libby), shaking hands (Dylan), waving (Poppy-Mai), brushing your teeth (Finley), reading and writing (Ellis), climbing (Reuben), punching (Matthew) and clapping (Charlie T). Lots of these things we said were good things but the children said that the hitting and punching were not good things to do.
We liked the squirty cream idea and the children told me that you can’t take words back once you have said them just like you can’t put the cream back in the tin. Ben said that you need to think carefully before you speak. We reminded each other of kind words at all times.
Year 1 had lots of ideas about good things they could do this week such as sharing with others, helping at home at teatime, tidying up after ourselves, being friendly to others, making good choices, working hard, doing the right thing, keeping our school tidy and eating healthily.
We are going to always work hard and do our best to make sure our school is a happy place to be.
If we make a bad choice we talked about finding a way of putting it right by saying sorry, writing a letter, helping the person by doing something kind. We are going to do our best to make good choices to make our families and teachers proud of us.
In year 6 we have said that we use our hands for greeting other people by shaking their hands, helping people up, give hugs, gymnastics, dance…, to eat our food, fighting e.g. pulling hair and hitting, to write our work down or to draw, clap to congratulate and praise people, stealing and snatching.
Words are like squirty cream because once you say it you cannot put it back.
The good things that we can do for others this week are helping our friends and including them if they are feeling lonely or on their own.
We can ensure that our school is a happy place to be in by including everyone even if we dont speak to them very often and respecting everyone.
Good things we can do with our hands are waving, cooking, clapping, writing, holding hands, giving gifts, reading to others or ourself, doing things we enjoy like dancing, basketball and different activities.
Year 5 says:
What do you do with your hands every day?
brush your teeth, write, brush your hair, pray, clap. There are lots of other things we use our hands for too.
Which of these things are good?
playing games, fishing, playing different sports, shaking hands.
Why are words and actions like squirty cream?
Because once it’s come out you can’t put it back in.
What good things can you do for others this week? How can you ensure our school is a happy place for everyone?
Help them with their work, help someone up if they’ve fallen over, let them play in the game, be kind and friendly.
What do you think you should do if you make a bad choice?
Try and put it right by apologising, making friends with them, inviting them in the game, try not to do it again.
In Year 3 we had a circle time to talk about how we use our hands in positive ways. We were ALL able to contribute to the discussion and talk about things we have done. Some of us make beds, help tidy up, draw pictures, write cards, high five, pull funny faces, wave hello and goodbye, swim, ride horses, paint pictures and many others.
We liked Miss Mason showing us the squirty cream and explaining how once our words are spoken they can not be taken back. If we say mean things people might forgive us but they wont forget!
Today somebody in Year 3 slapped someone else and made them cry at lunchtime. We talked about how we have consequences for this like moving our name down and Miss Payne talking to our Mum or dad. But we can make it better with a sincere apology and an improvement in behaviour.
We are going to try using our hands in kind ways more often.
