Ava said at Easter Christians remember that Jesus shared the Last Supper with his friends and died on the cross. She said the good news was that he came back to life. This year Palm Sunday was on 25th March and we remember Jesus’s arrival in Jerusalem. Good Friday is the 30th March and we remember that on this day Jesus died. We eat hot cross buns on Good Friday to remember him. Easter Sunday is the 1st April this year. Lots of families go to Church on Easter Day, have family celebrations and eat special food.
All the children in year 1 are really looking forward to receiving Easter eggs and going on Easter egg hunts! Lee said that we eat chocolate easter eggs as they are a symbol of new life. Everybody is looking forward to a lovely break in Year 1.
Year 6 think Easter day is an important time of the year because this was the time that Jesus returned.
Good Friday is a sad day for Christians as this was the day that Jesus died on the cross. If you visit a church on Good Friday, it may be dark and feel sad as Christians are remembering this important time in the year. Good Friday was given its name as Christians believe that Jesus died for the good of the people.
Easter Sunday is not the same date every year, like Christmas.
At Easter time, some people celebrate with eggs as they represent new life.
Over the Easter holidays Year 6 are celebrating in different ways:
Edward is going to Devon with his family.
Chloe Cash is going to Bournemouth with her family.
Naoni is going skiing in France with friends and family!
Freddie is going to Torquay with family.
Oliver is having a family meal on Easter day and he will be eating lots of chocolate eggs.
Toby is visiting Manchester over the holidays with his football team.
Harry is also going to Torquay with family.
Miss Haines is going to Florida for the holidays!
Mrs Ellis is relaxing and eating lots of chocolate!
Year 6 hope that you all enjoy your Easter holidays and have a safe and happy time! 🙂
The children have been busy learning about the Easter story in the classroom as well as in the assembly. We read the whole story about what happened to Jesus, the children did not like Judas at all! They were sad when they learned about the part when Jesus died, but really amazed at the end when he came back to life. The children have explored the different symbols of Easter including the cross and the egg and as we have been learning about life cycles and Spring lots of children have been able to understand the link between the two.
In Foundation we were very excited about the visit from the Easter Bunny in the assembly and we are extremely excited about Easter Sunday when we hope the Easter Bunny will visit again.
Happy Easter everyone!
