The children in Foundation listed lots and lots of foods that we can eat to stay healthy. Poppy said that you can eat strawberries, bananas and blueberries. Matilda told us that she had eaten weetabix with kiwi and pineapple that morning for her breakfast. Reuben commented that the milk on the weetabix is really good for your bones. Ellis told us that you need to drink water and that it is healthy because it does not have any sugar in. This then led to a super conversation about why too much sugar can be bad for you, the children were surprised to find out that too much could make you teeth fall out!
The presentation that we used also showed us that in addition to eating well we need to keep clean, get enough sleep and get enough exercise. Reuben commented that running and football keep your legs strong. A super discussion, well done Foundation.
Year 1 have been talking a lot about staying healthy. They know that to stay healthy you must
– eat a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetable. Caleb said you need to eat 5 a day.
-get lots of rest and sleep. Zunnurain said you need 10 – 11 hours sleep.
-ensure you have lots of fresh air.
-drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.
-keep fit by exercising everyday and keep our bodies active.
-keep our bodies clean by having showers or baths.
-clean our teeth twice a day. Imogen said that was really important so your teeth don’t have fillings.
Our bodies are like cars as they need fuel to keep them going. We need to put good food inside us, get plenty of rest so we can grow, stay strong and stay healthy.
Year 1 say that they try to eat a balanced diet but sometimes they find it hard to refuse treats. Dexter said he wanted to exercise more and eat healthily. Amelia said if you don’t get enough sleep you won’t be able to do your best work.
Keeping clean is important to keeping healthy.
George plays sport and eats bananas afterwards.
Imogen does martial arts.
Yvie, does ballet on a Monday and Saturday.
Rylee plays rugby for Birmingham Bees.
Zaac has to have something healthy if he wants his chocolate bar.
Year 5 says:
What do you think you should do to keep yourself healthy?
We think we should eat our 5 a day, get at least 60 minutes of exercise each day, get the recommended amout of sleep (10-11 hours for a child), wash yourself properly, spend less time on electronics, do things that make you feel good and drink lots of water.
Why is your body like a car?
Because we have to be able to function properly. The fuel in the car is like our sleep and food. We also have to drive it around just like we have to exercise. The petrol in the car can also be thought of as us drinking fluids.
CHALLENGE:
Do you think that you are a healthy person? Why?
Year 5 think that we are a healthy class overall because we all try to stay active and eat healthy options. Some of us also do at least 60 minutes of exercise each day.
Tell me about what you are going to do so that you are more healthy in future?
Try to drink more water and eat more fruit and vegetables, do some exercise, and get more sleep.
We are currently really enjoying our Eat Well Move More programme and doing IntraSports. It is really interesting learning about nutrition and trying different healthy food options that we wouldn’t usually try.
