  1. Year 2 says:

Year 2 were very lucky to have Dr Jenny Watson ‘Doc Watson’ come and visit us in year 2. We looked at different kinds of boats from around the world and then designed and tested our own ideas. We made boats from floating materials and tried different shapes and sizes. We also used plastercine to test how many pennies our ‘barges’ could hold. Some of us were able to figure out how to make the perfect floating boat. But some of them sank too! What a lot of fun we had testing our ideas!!
Assembly was really good and we learnt some new facts about the Polar Regions. These are called the Arctic and Antarctic and sometimes we call them the North and South Poles. Our planet is a big magnet! We also talked about how polar bears might be extinct within the next 100 years because the sea ice is melting and they are finding it harder each year to survive. We are going to design our own boats at home and test them in the bathtub! We are looking forward to Science Week in March when we can discuss these issues and learn even more!

  2. Year 5 says:

    Year 5 says:
What do we use the internet for?
    – Shopping
    – Facetime/email
    – Online gaming
    – Researching information
    – MyMaths – revision and learning
    – Social Media
Why is internet safety so important?
    – Because you might think you know someone, but actually they are pretending to be someone else.
    – If you give away personal information other people could hack into your personal things.
    – It is important to keep us safe so that we can use the internet for the positive and useful things.

Tell me how you can keep yourself safe when you use the internet?
    – Not share your personal information
    – Report any bad incidents
    – Make use of privacy settings
    – Go on age appropraite websites and make sure your parents are aware.

    CHALLENGE:

What did you learn about Polar regions?
    – The UK has a station where they scientists can stay and do reasearch. If the ice starts cracking they have to get it up on stilts and try to move it.
    – Global Warming is affecting the species that live there. Because of this, polar bears might be extint within the next 100 years.
What can you do to learn more?
    – You can research it or find it in a book.
    – Ask people
    – Join a Science club?
Do you think you could make a difference one day?
    Yes by:
-Having an electric car instead of a normal one.
    – Invent somthing that reduces air pollution.
    – Walk/ ride a bike to places instead of using the car.

  3. Foundation says:

We learnt about about the Polar regions – the North Pole (Artic) and the South Pole (Antarctica).
We learnt that the Polar Bears live in the North Pole and Penguins like to live in the South Pole.

We thought the name of the submarine was very funny.

Its important to look after our environment to stop our planet heating up and stop our animals dying. In foundation we talked about the importance of picking up our rubbish and putting it in the bin as well as switching off lights.

  4. Year 1 says:

We have been talking about keeping safe online and we watched the story of Smartie the penguin. We learnt how we need to be careful and keep our personal details to ourselves. We know to ask an adult if we want to go onto the internet and to tell a grown up if we are feeling worried. We have even made some posters to help and remind others how to stay safe online. We are going to put up a display to remind ourselves how to keep safe when using the computer and our tablets and games.
We enjoyed assembly and learning about the Polar regions from our visitor. We found it interesting to learn that the ice is melting and the planet is getting warmer. We liked seeing the pictures of the polar bears and were concerned that they could become extinct as the climate changes. We want to help them to survive in our world.

  5. Year 6 says:

    We use the internet for:
    – play games, research things, watch videos, communicate to others, work and homework.

    Internet safety is important because:
-you need to know what to do if you find yourself in a problem online.
-it is a dangerous place and you need to know how to stay safe.
-you we use a lot and we use it for important things so we need to know how to use it properly and safely.

You can keep yourself safe online by:
-telling an adult or parent if you get into any trouble.
-have good privacy settings on all of your things e.g. ghost mode on snapchat.
-sticking to the age requirements of social media.
-treat your password like your toothbrush. Don’t share it.
-don’t say anything online that you wouldn’t say to your grandma.

  6. Class3 says:

Year 3 enjoyed watching the powerpoint about Smartie and talked about why it is important to make sure our parents know when we use the internet and especially if we going on- line. In class we created our own digital footprint which showed us how much we use the internet. We discussed even more so the importance of keeping safe on – line and never giving out our details.
We really enjoyed the assembly on Monday and found out how the special place we live in is changing. We talked about climate change and how our planet is getting warmer. The children talked about global warning and how we need to make sure that we all looked after each other and the environment and what pollution is.

  7. s14mseale says:

Year 4 understand Cyberspace to be the online world that stores all the information that is published on the Internet. It’s where and how all the computers can connect. The Internet is the area on a computer or device that we often visit to find out new information or connect with people in different ways.

In Year 4 we use the Internet to:
    -Do our My Maths homework
    -Catch up on TV
    -Play games with friends
    -Messaging friends
    -Listen to music
    -Watch videos
    -Video calls with family

We think that Internet safety is important to:
    -Prevent cyberbullying
-Prevent seeing something you wouldn’t want to see
    -Prevent being hacked
    -Prevent being vulnerable

Our online life hacks for staying safe online will be published on our Year 4 learning blog on Friday.
