Riley says a smile is important as it makes you feel happy. He described how he feels nice and warm inside. Amelia said that a smile makes you feel special.

Lee said when he works hard it makes him happy so he’s going to do his best this week. Listening to Mum and dad also makes him feel happy as they are pleased with him. Luke said doing well in his spellings will make him feel happy. Sophie said working hard at school will make her happy.
Ava said that it was important to make others feel happy by being kind, smiling and cheering people up if they weren’t feeling happy.

  2. Year 5 says:

    Year 5 says:
    What makes you feel happy?
-Seeing my friends and family and spending time with them.
    -Spending time with animals.
    -Going on days out
    -Scoring a goal in football
Why is a smile so important?
    – Because it makes other people smile
-So people know that you are happy
-It can help to improve your mood
What can you do this week to make you feel happy?
    – Score a try in rugby
    – Open presents for my birthday
    – Help my parents to do jobs around the house
    – Be nice to everyone
What can you do to help others feel happy?
    – Try to make them laugh
    – Ask them if they want to play with you
    – Ask them if they are ok and take the time to listen to them
    – Smile at them

Year 5 think that the poem is telling us that you can’t force yourself to be happy, but you can always try. It might also sugges that even if you are upset, just try to get with on and think positvely.

    CHALLENGE:
Ecstasy is an overwhelming feeling of joy or happiness.
We think that Jessica ‘un-selfed’ by seeing a butterfly which put the argument with her friend into perspective. This then made her call her friend and apologise.

  3. Year 6 says:

    HAPPINESS

Things that make us feel happy:
    -cinema or watching films
    -playing my favourite sport
-spending time with family and friends
    -sleeping
    -going to school
    -playing favourite games
    -relaxing
    -love
    -food

Smiling is important because it makes you feel happy and if others see you smiling it makes them feel happy. It also shows people around you that you are happy and grateful.

To make us more happy we are going to:
    -try to make others happy
-spend more time with family and friends
-try to be nicer and we’ll feel better and they’ll be nice back so i’ll be happy
    -more relaxing time
    -do more things we enjoy

To make others happier we are going to
    -good manners
    -include everyone
-be nice & kind & helpful

  4. Foundation says:

In Foundation we came up with a long list of things that make us happy: Mrs Norris is happy when children do the right thing. Noor-Ul said tickling made him happy, Matilda said that shes happy when her mummy and daddy let her stay up late, Phoebe said playing with her teddies makes her happy and Dylan said going to the cinema made him happy.
Foundation think its important to smile because it will make people happy too. The children thought that sharing and looking after each other will make them feel happy and intern will then pass on the happiness to everyone else.

  5. Myrtle Dwyer says:

Watching Harry Potter with my family makes me feel happy. Also I like it when it’s my birthday. Going to the park makes me happy too, and to the Whacky Warehouse.

  6. Anonymous says:

    POEM

We think the poem is suggesting that you can choose to be happy and you can make yourself happy.

    ECSTASY

We think this means that you should be happy to be alive and be thankful for what you have got.

Jessica and Jeremy stopped thinking about their problems and became happy – they ‘un-selfed’. Jessica saw a butterfly and Jeremy took a walk along the beach.

  7. Year 2 says:

In Year 2 we find happiness in lots of different ways; going to the park, going to our friend’s house for a sleepover, holidays and swimming in the pool, playing games, watching tv and telling jokes.
In Year 2 we also talked about sadness as the opposite of happiness and sometimes we can feel both. Feelings come from inside us and it’s good to have both.
We are going to practice smiling at people more because we notice that when someone smiles at us we always end up smiling back and then you feel happy – even if just for the next few minutes! It’s contagious!
Miss Payne told us that she is always happy when sewing with her sewing machine and making things because she listens to music and has a cup of tea too!
To make our classroom happier we are going to be mindful of showing kindness to others.
Love and kindness make our world go around!

  8. Year 3 says:

Poppy is happy when she gets new toys. Mili feels happy when she wins races. Borys feels happy when he has achieved somethig or scored a goal. Jake feels happy when he plays computer games and is off school. Zachary feels happy when he is with his parents.
A smile is important because it can make other people feel happy and let them know you are happy.
Elodie is going to make sure no one is left out at playtime. Jake is going to his friends house which will make him happy. Archie will also have his friends visit. Isla and Borys are going to birthday parties. Lucas is going to go swimming. Joe is looking forward to his birthday.
To make other people feel happy, Joshua is going to say hello to them and have nice conversations with people. Isla is going to smile at people. Harvey is going to play with people and help them join in. Poppy is going to join in and play with other children.
We think that the poem is telling us to look for things that will make you happy rather than sad.

  9. Year 4 says:

Year 4 thought that playing sport with Mr Smith makes them very happy. Some said playing with siblings reading books made them happy while other thought that their family and friends made them happy.
Year 4 thought that a smile was important because it instantly lifts your mood and the mood of those around you. Children agreed that listening to the teacher, hugs and feeling safe made them happy whilst being friendly would make others happy.

Ecstasy is an overwhelming feeling of happiness or joy. Jessica ‘un-selfed’ by seeing a butterfly which made her think more about the argument with her friend. We spoke in year 4 about ‘un-selfing’ when some children were finding it hard to rhyme in poetry this week. We tried to put that problem into perspective by thinking about the real life problems children around the world might have.
