Mrs Arnold asked children how much they thought the average person in Britain earned a year. Some people said one million pounds while other people said a thousand pounds. Mrs Arnold discussed the average wage and broke down where a lot of people’s monthly wage would go. We agreed that once you’d paid for your house and bills, there wasn’t much money left over. We discussed tax and how it works. We also discussed pensions and the difference between Britain and America. We discussed how our NHS might look appealing to people in other countries. Mrs Arnold then told the class the sorts of wages different jobs would have and then we discussed whether we thought footballers should get so much more than doctors, just because they were famous. Children were shocked at the wage difference. Children discussed a variety of jobs they wanted to do and how if they did become famou, they could use their fame to help others like Prince Harry and the Invictus games.
