Year 5 think that:
1) We are all different because: we have different hair, skin colours, genders, religions, opinions, personalities and each person is unique.
2) We think that ‘all equal’ means…that nobody is more important than anybody else and we are all equal in our community.
3) Inside the box in assembly was a mirror which you could see yourself in.
4) It was unique and special because the person who looked in the mirror only saw themselves which shows us that we are all different in our own way. Everybody is special.
5) Our school is like a cake because we are like the different ingredients and it makes a whole cake which resembles the whole school.
6) This week we are going to welcome and respect other people’s opinions, let people play or sit with you at break, lunch and afterschool and check that other children are feeling happy in order to make someone feel valued, resepcted and part of the school community.
Mrs Norris talked with the children and showed them the ingredients, the children knew straight away that we could make a cake with them. When we said that we would need to take away the butter, the children decided that we would only end up with an eggy mess! (Matilda thought this sounded delicious as she likes eggs…) Mrs Norris then talked with the children about each ingredient being the same as part of the school, and how if we didn’t have all of them we wouldn’t have a school. We then talked about what bullying meant and the children said that bullying sounded mean and unkind. We showed the antibullying wrist band that Willian had bought today and told the children that this week we would be focussing on how to be kind and friends with everyone so that we are each happy and safe at school.
Year 1 told me they have different eye, hair and skin colour. They said they have different sized feet and are different heights. They said that they all have different interests and things that they are good at. Toby told us that ‘all equal’ meant that no one is the boss and we are all allowed to have different ideas and no one’s idea is better than anyone elses.
The children said that inside the box was a mirror where they could see their own reflection. Everybody looking in the box was different but all special. Leah said that our school is like a cake because all of us are the ingredients and we all work together to make our school a special place to be and that we are all valued.
Year 1 said they were going to work hard to be friendly and kind to others. They thought they could give a compliment to a friend to make them feel special.
We have spoken in Year 4 about the things that make us the same and the things that make us different. We thought about things which make us unique and special and the talents that we have that might make us stand out in a good way. Some of our talents are:
Archie – Rugby, he plays for a top team in Birmingham
Rosa and Ellie – Ballroom dancing, the girls go to a class
Kai – Football, he plays for Kings Heath
Rylee – Football, he plays at the school club
Layton – Boxing
Sophie – Singing, she goes to Solihull Children’s Choir
Ted – Diablo – Ted practises every day
Yvie-Mae – Art – She goes to go to Art Club at school
All of our special talents are like ingredients that when put together make one big school cake.
We spoke about people being jealous of other people’s special talents and trying to bring those people down.
Year 3 talked about what bullying means and how important it is to respect everyone all the time. We talked about making sure that we all know what to do if we ever see someone being bullied.
Year 3 know that we are all different in many ways and that we can like different things, look different, live in different places and be good at different things but we have to treat everyone the same and that no-one is better than anyone else.
We also listened to a poem about bullying and talked about how it feels to be bullied. We then wrote some of our own poems about bullying and published them on our school blog.
In our class Demi was chosen to look in the box and she saw HERSELF! She was looking into a mirror. We should all be treated the same even if we are different. Each person who looks in the mirror sees themselves. Each person is unique and special!
Jacob says we are each a different ingredient to make a school. If we were a cake we would be delicious because all of the children (ingredients) are special and amazing.
Alice this week has helped Anaya when she fell over.
Adah poured a drink for Zeb at lunchtime.
Archie has not done anything nasty this week to other children in the class. He has tried very hard to do the right thing.
Freya asked Lily-Mae to play with her and Lily-Mae said YES PLEASE!
Year 2 DOES NOT HAVE BULLIES IN OUR CLASS!!!
Toby and Charlotte were chosen to look inside the box in assembly. Toby said he was surprised as he wasn’t expecting to see himself!
Toby and Charlotte both thought that what they saw was special and unique.
Maddie told us she has been playing with pupils in Year 3 and Year 4 and they were very happy and felt valued as Maddie allowed them to choose the game.
Oliver said during foundation duty he included some of the year one pupils as they were sitting on their own.
Chloe Cash, Ethan and Stanley also shared with us that whilst they were doing foundation duty, they all included Year ones too.
Year 6 think that it is a good thing to be different as otherwise life would be very boring. We all know that everyone is unique and that everyone should be valued. We should all accept everyone no matter what their differences are.
