Ava said she has enjoyed learning about how Florence Nightingale was so kind and helpful to others. She was a very caring person. These were her best qualities. She made the dirty, yucky, rat infested hospital into a nice, clean one! Ava thinks she deserved the medal because even though her mother didn’t want her to be a nurse, she worked really hard to do it, went on a long journey and wrote a book too. The soldiers liked her because she looked after them and made them better. She looked after a boy called Bill after he’d had his leg cut off. She was known as the lady with the lamp because she went around with an oil lamp and wished all of the patients a good nights sleep.
