Ava told me that Jimmy had a big family with 9 children. Toby said Jimmy was a funny boy who sometimes was the class clown. Nathan told me he didn’t behave well in school and didn’t follow the school rules. Ellie told us that Jimmy’s friends chose to ignore him as he stopped them from doing ‘good learning.’ Oscar told us that Jimmy learnt that he had to turn it around and behave himself as his friends wanted him to make good choices and be a good learner like they were.
Charlie said he finds it hard to stop chattering. Zunnurain said that he finds it hard to be patient.
Toby told the children that he was a good learner because he listens well, works hard, doesn’t chat, is kind and respectful to others.
All the children said that they work hard to make sure they do not disturb anybody else’s learning.
We are all looking forward to celebrating harvest on Friday. We have been bringing in food donations for Helping Hands and know that our food will help people who do not have as much food as we have.
We had a discussion about what kind of person Jimmy was and Year 6 came up with the following:
– Jimmy came from a large family with 9 siblings!
– His family life was quite chaotic.
– He was the class clown and was always trying to make people laugh.
– He wasn’t all bad though as he listened to his teacher.
– His friends ignored him as he distracted them when they were working on an important project.
– Jimmy realised he had to stop behaving as the class clown and that he should stop distracting his friends so much.
Year 6 find these rules the hardest to follow:
– Managing distractions
– Fiddling with items on the table
– Not playing football
Ines thinks she is a good learner because although she sometimes gets distracted, she still works hard.
Stanley thinks he is a good learner as he listens but he also realises he has things to work on.
In year 3 we talked about the story of Jimmy and we realised that he hopefully saw that being silly is not the best way to get attention.
We think that as a class we could work harder at ignoring others silly behaviour so that we have a nicer classroom to work in. We are also going to make sure that we practice talking at the right times and listening when we should more.
We think that to be a good learner, we need to practice making good choices and to avoid being like Jimmy in the story. Not only can silly behaviour affect our own learning, it can also affect other peoples as well.
