In year three we talked about the times we have helped our families out. We feel that it is important to help out and support our family. Some of us wash the dishes, prepare dinner, tidy bedrooms and look after our pets.
We also realised that most of us have an Agatha the spider in our families. One of our parents! It made us realise that when we help out at home, we make life easier for our parents and hopefully they can take some time to make their own webs, rather than ours first.
Ava told us that Agatha helped her friends by giving them string she had spun to assist them. She said that as Agatha had given such a lot to others, it had made her poorly. she had forgotten to think about herself.
Toby told us that the old spider helped Agatha by giving her food to help her build her strength and string to help her make the web.
Dexter said that the old spider was very wise and taught Agatha to look after herself so that she had the strength to help her friends when they needed support.
Year 1 enjoyed the story and we have talked about how they can be a good friend. The children are writing their thoughts on the year 1 blog this week.
Agatha helped her friends by producing string for them for various things. She helped so many people that she ended up feeling weak and becoming very hungry.
The bear, the doves and the old spider all helped Agatha but especially the old spider because he taught her a lesson. He gave her food and a place to stay for a while until she was felt better and could then produce the best string she could produce. From the old spider she learnt to take care of herself first before others as they would benefit from her strength more.
Eudaimonia means well being and happiness. We chatted about how good it is to have good mental health.
We talked about our mental health in year 5 and how important it is to value your sense of well being and happiness. We talked about some of the ways we can be different from each other (both physicially and mentally) but how we must remember that no matter what we are all strong and good people.
Eudomonia is our sense of happiness and well being. We discussed that no matter how we are different, it is important we remember the positives in ourselves and support each other.
In Year 2 we talked about how kind Agatha was to help others. She helped people so much though and she didn’t look after herself. We need to be like Agatha and be kind but we have to learn to look after ourselves too! Looking after yourself is very very important. The children in Year 2 were able to talk about things they do to look after themselves. We also had an interesting conversation about how we can look after our thoughts and minds. We talked about how worrying about things sometimes makes us feel a bit sick and ‘funny’ in the tummy. It’s important to take time to just relax. Some children in year 2 told Miss Payne what ‘chillax’ means!!
The older spider was able to help Agatha. That’s like Miss Payne and when we have ‘Tappy Time’ in class. We also enjoy breathing slowly which helps us calm down and feel more relaxed. This lets our bodies and minds stay calm.
Agatha helped her friends by giving them her string.
Because Agatha helped too many of her friends, she got ill and weak.
The bear, the dove and the old spider helped her. They helped her by taking her to the old spider, who gave her food and told her to care about herself.
