  1. Year 6 says:

Most of Year 6 celebrate Halloween. Here are some examples of how we celebrate:
    -I put up Halloween decorations.
    -I carve pumpkins.
    -I go trick or treating.
    -I dress up.
    -I go to Halloween parties.

    Facts we know about Halloween:
-People used to dress up when they left their house because they thought they would meet ghosts and they didn’t want to be recognised.
-The Irish came to America and they used turnips with candles to light their way and scare away ghosts but in America they realised pumpkins were easier to carve.
-Halloween was started by an ancient religion called Celts.

Most people in Year 6 celebrate Bonfire Night. Here are some examples of how we celebrate:
-I go to places where they have fireworks and a bonfire.
-I have fireworks in my garden.
    -I have smores.
    -I have sparklers.

We celebrate the 5th November because a group of Catholic conspirators were poised to launch a terrorist plot on an unprecedented scale. They planned to blow up Parliament, wiping out the King and the establishment in an attempt to trigger a popular uprising. But the plot was foiled just hours before the fuse was lit.

  2. Year 1 says:

Lots of children in Year 1 celebrate Halloween. They celebrate by dressing up, going to parties and going trick or treating. Amelia will be dressing up as a skeleton, Scarlett will be a bat, Ellie will be a witch, Toby will be a wizard. the children said that they preferred Halloween to Bonfire Night just because they found it fun to dress up in different costumes.

We have learned all about the Gunpowder Plot today and the children know that this story is a true story of somebody famous in history who tried to kill King James over 400 years ago. Guy Fawkes was a Catholic and he didn’t like the King and the Protestant people so he made a plan with his friends to blow up the Houses of Parliament. We learned that the plot failed and about the guards putting him into prison for doing the wrong thing.

Maisie, Ava, Riley, Oscar, Imogen and Freddie said they will be going to firework displays and having sparklers to wave. Luke said his Nanny would be having a firework display in her back garden. We also talked about yummy bonfire Night food-hot dogs, soup and toffee apples.

  3. Year 3 says:

    To celebrate Halloween we;
went trick or treating at other people’s houses.
visited spooky attractions like Warwick Castle and haunted houses or farms,
    carve pumpkins,
    decorate our houses
    dress up in creep costumes!

    To celebrate bonfire night we;
    set off fireworks,
    eat tasty hot food,
    we build Guy Fawkes dolls,
we build a big bonfire and put the Guy Fawkes in the fire!

Most of year 3 prefer hall0ween. This is because we love to dress up in silly costumes, play games and go trick or treating!

We know that halloween is scary to little kids as my cousin morgan who is eight is scared on halloween and just plays on his ps3 so we make him join in the games instead. Yes, we do as we often have bonfires and fireworks in my grandads field. To celebrate that Guy Fawkes gunpowder plot failed.

  9. Year 5 says:

We had a great time celebrating halloween in year 5. Some of us got to go out trick or treating! We dressed up as lots of things; skeletons, ghosts, zombies, killer clowns, zombie schoolgirls, book characters, harley quinn and lots of other scary things!
We enjoyed getting lots of sweets and chocolate and seeing other people in costume. We saw some houses decorated and some spooky tricks.
At the weekend, we are going to see fireworks displays. Some of year 5 know the story of bonfire night and Guy Fawkes. It’s pretty horrible!
We are not sure which we prefer as they are both lots of fun.

  10. Year 4 says:

We celebrate Halloween by carving pumpkins. we dress up in scary costumes and go trick or treating to people houses, they give us sweets. Its a scary but fun time.
We celebrate fire work night to remember Guy Fawkes who tried to blow up the Houses Of Parliament. We left off fireworks and have bonfires. We can play games like apple bobbing. The fireworks are to represent the gun powder if Guy
Fawkes plot had worked, sometime we make a guy and burn it on the bonfire. Some of us eat toffee apples and toast marshmallows.

  11. Foundation says:

The children in Foundation One and Two have been very excited about both Halloween and Bonfire Night. Some of the children told us about how they dressed up in costumes and went out trick or treating with their grown-up, they were happy to receive all the sweets! Other children did not go out but helped to give out sweets to those that did knock on their door.
We have been talking a lot about fireworks this week, especially their noises, colours, shapes and the patterns they make. We have made bonfire pictures and firework rockets and talked about how to stay safe when there are bonfires or displays at home or out and about. We are mostly excited about the coming weekend but some children are a little nervous about the loud fireworks that they may hear. We hope everyone has an enjoyable and safe weekend.

  12. s14cpayne says:

In Year 2 we talked about our trick-or-treat evening and all the fun we had dressing up and visiting our friends. Some children in Year 2 were given LOTS of treats! We also carved pumpkins in Year 2 and some of us carved them at home too!

This weekend most of us are going to have a bonfire or go somewhere where there is going to be fireworks!

Remember, remember the 5th of November! We remembered the story from Year 1 about Guy Fawkes and his friends!!

  13. Alice jones yr 2 says:

This year on Halloween, we went trick or treating for the 1st time. It was really fun and we got lots of treats. On Halloween, when it was believed that ghosts came back to the earthly world, people thought that they would encounter ghosts if they left their homes. To avoid being recognized by these ghosts, people would wear masks when they left their homes after dark so that the ghosts would mistake them for fellow spirits. Bonfire night is celebrated on the 5 th November. We celebrate by having a massive bonfire and fireworks. We celebrate it to remember the day that guy fawks tried to blow up the houses of parliament. His plan was foiled and that is why we celebrate bonfire night else we wouldn’t have the houses of parliament today in London
