    The ‘Lord of the Harvest’ needed to do two things – 1. pay the workers and 2. tell the workers which fields to work in.

    Neave loved learning about the Harvest process. We watched YouTube videos of harvesting and spoke about which fruits are more commonly harvested. Neave has drew a picture of a farmer harvesting crops (peas & strawberries) and will bring it in her wallet. ๐Ÿ™‚

    We had lots of fun sorting fruit and vegetables. I sorted them into colour and where they grow. Harvest is when the farmer picks and collects food using a tractor to help. We also went to the shop to pick some food for harvest festival and doing lots of singing of Dingle Dangle Scarecrow!

    Rio enjoyed sorting out his toy food into vegetables and fruit although he says he does not like them! We have pictures of rio sorting these out and his fun fact is that the harvest festival is help on the Sunday of the harvest moon

    Flossie loved this challenge. We sorted the fruit and vegetables and sang lots of harvest songs. Flossie learned that we usually celebrate harvest in September but it is sometimes in October.

    Indiya had a look at some fruits and vegetables we had at home. We looked at satsumas and talked about itโ€™s colour orange and how they are seedless and easy to peel.
    We talked about Harvest and had a look at some pictures online of harvest festivals. We found out that Harvest is a celebration of the food grown on the land.

    Sofia sorted out lots of fruit and vegetables and we took a picture which is in her wallet. We talked about which grew on trees and which grew underground and also which ones had seeds.

    We talked about harvest and found out that a corn dolly was made with the last sheaf of corn to bring good luck for the next harvest. We looked at some pictures of corn dollies.

    We also found some tins from the cupboard to bring to harvest festival.

    Pippa sorted lots of fruit and vegetables into different colours, whether they were a fruit or a vegetable, whether they had seeds and if they grew under or over ground.
    We found out that at harvest time wheat and barley are harvested by huge machines called combine harvesters. We watched a video of a combine harvester, Pippa said it was like a huge tractor.

    Molly sorted all the fruit and vegetables from the kitchen into piles and we talked about where each one grows. Molly remembered the tomato plants she grew in the summer and how we had to wait until the fruit was ripe before we harvested it.

    Charlie and Molly sorted our toy food into a fruit group and a vegetable group and we discussed colours and why they were described in this way. They had a good understanding of the ‘seed’ element of fruit and knew that they were found in different places and that we call some of them ‘pips’. We discussed whether the fruit and vegetables grew under ground, on top of the ground or on plants and trees (or vines). We discussed the idea of ‘harvest’ and they both understood that this meant collecting the crops from the fields. We looked online at what was harvested locally and what we could pick if we visited a farm. Mummy will email photos of our fruit and vegetable groups. We have been practising ‘Dingle Dangle Scarecrow’ too.

    Caleb liked looking at all the different fruits and talking about what colours they were, we looked at the seeds on a strawberry and talked about apple trees. I showed Caleb how farmers harvest their fields using a combine harvester and Caleb enjoyed watching videos of Combine Harvesters on YouTube
