This morning we visited Wedges Bakery for the first time.
Archie thought the best bit was that they sold cornflake cakes but was sad they weren’t rice crispy cakes . But we were all shocked to hear that the bakers start at 10pm and work all through the night to make sure there is plenty of fresh bread on a Saturday morning.
There were no currant buns but there were iced fingers. 🙂
We all enjoyed this homework! !

We have sang the nursery rhyme lots and had loads of fun with all different people and toys buying a current bun! We talked about when we went to Wedges bakery to collect Scarlett’s chocolate monster high birthday cake. Scarlett remembered all the bread and yummy cakes they sold and how lovely it smelled inside.

Lee has learnt that bakers get up very early and the cakes & bread smell lovely.
He has been enjoying singing the currant bun song.

Today we went to the bakery at Beckets Farm to see if Uncle Jo Jo could give us a tour. Unfortunately Mommy didn’t realise that he works from 10pm and finishes at 6am so he had left by the time we got there! We all loved looking at the cakes and we each chose our favourite (Daddy M had two!) They didn’t have any currant buns but we did buy a currant loaf to try. We loved this homework – especially the eating part! X

  5. Ava & Georgia says:

After learning the nursery rhyme Five Currant Buns Ava & Georgia visited Wedges Bakery. Unfortunately they didn’t have any Current Buns for sale, but Ava & Georgia enjoyed looking at all the other cakes and different types of bread. As a special treat we then stayed and had a cornflake cake and ginger bread man. Yum Yum

We went to the Bakery and Milly bought a Belguim bun with a cherry on the top as there were no current buns. Milly’s big sister would like Milly to have more homework that requires visiting a bakery!!!!

We sang the nursery rhyme and we enjoyed changing the name of the person buying the current bun! We visited Wedges Bakery and Livy said, ‘They asked us to get a current bun but there wasn’t any so we got a gingerbread man and a roll and we ate lunch at home.’ ‘We saw a duckling gingerbread man and we saw a lady going to get them for us (cashier)’. ‘We saw some chocolate that went on my gingerbread man.’

Hannah enjoyed learning all about bakery’s , she said she would like to get up early in the morning to go and help bake the bread and cakes for the customers .

  9. Jared says:

Today we visited Becketts Farm Bakery. We learnt that the bakers start cooking all the different types of breads and cakes at 3:00 in the morning. Jared said ‘that’s still night time’! They didn’t have any currant buns but the belgium buns looked similar with raisins inside, and a cherry on the top. We saw some of the ovens they use to bake the bread and cakes over the other side of the counter, and Jared said that ‘the ovens are much bigger than our oven’. We enjoyed eating a gingerbread man and tried a little bit of a belgium bun 🙂

James and I watched a YouTube video on what they make in a bakery. The lady gets up at 4am to make bread for her shop fresh. We watched her make bread, current buns, croissants, and rhubarb Danishes.

James is looking forward to making current buns at school on Wednesday.

Isla enjoyed her visit to wedges, they did not have any currant buns but we bought a nice warm loaf.
Isla was intrigued to see the man in the window rolling dough and making shapes with it, she also liked the huge tray of uncut chocolate cake.

Alice went along to Tescos bakery with daddy on Sunday morning (not a local traditional bakery I know)
She looked at all the different types of bread and cakes they made and the funny shaped pretzels caught her eye aswell as the chocolate croissants. Unfortunately, there were not any current buns!
We then had family fun singing about mommy and daddy going into the bakers shop and buying 5 current buns. Asking Alice how many were left, she replied ‘NONE’!

  13. Nathan Little says:

My Grandma and Grandad took me to Wedges yesterday after lunch. I saw all the different types of bread and saw all the different shapes you could buy. I had such a big lunch at Grandmas that I didn’t even want a cake or a biscuit.

  14. Charlie says:

Unfortunately we didn’t get chance to visit a bakery at the weekend but we really enjoyed singing the five current buns song and have also learnt that bakers get up very early to bake bread and cakes and sometimes even stay up all night!
