  1. Mrs Arnold says:

Dylan said that a jungle and a desert got in the way of the hippopotamus.
Sebby told us that he never gave up so that kept him going.
Hollie said we should be positive and say positive things to keep him going. Eva said giving him water would keep him going.

Times that we have had to keep going:
Rio said when we have walked a long way and have to keep going.
Holly K said going on a 9 mile bike ride on holidays and had to keep going.
Eleonora running in the airport to the next flight we have had to keep going.

    Year 5:
What are your hopes for now and for the future?
Lily – to be a better sister to her brother and in the future to be a vet.
Alice – to get on better with her sister and in the future to be a teacher.
James – to be better at Maths and in the future to be a mathematician.
Milly – to try and work harder in school and in the future move to Thailand and look after elephants.

Times when we didn’t give up:
Riley – went to snowboarding and fell off. He struggled but listened to the teacher and managed to get himself up and carry on.
Jacob – during football he let a penalty in but used it to make him play better.
Anaya – when she started learning how to ride a bike.
Freya – scared of holding her hamster initially but kept trying and is now happy to do it.

  3. Year 3 says:

Year 3 loved the poem that Miss Mason shared in assembly. We have lots of hopes for now and the future. Some of us want to get better at a hobby that we have and our shared hope is that Corona Virus goes away very soon. We talked about times when we have needed to keep hoping and not give up and we also chatted about how we can give one another encouragement when people around us start to give up hope.

Year 6 really enjoyed the assembly this morning.

In the story, different animals told the Hippopotamus to give up and stop trying to find water. When the Hippo found water, all of the animals said he should be called ‘Hopeopotamus’ because he never gave up and he kept going.

Archies hope for the future is to become a professional golfer and for now to reduce his handicap.
Bens hope for the future is to earn a lot of money and he hopes to save enough so he can soon buy a ‘Switch’.
Lucas hopes to become a scientist and is hoping for now, he can get into a good secondary school.
Borys hopes to become a professional footballer or to help animals and for now, to save £500.

Isla remembers when she was nervous about going on a rollercoaster and she didn’t give up hope and her fear did not the better of her and she went on it 3 times!

Year 6 had a sing along to Bob Marley and sounded great!
Zach felt happy during the song and Will felt more positive!

We are looking forward to more virtual assemblies!

  5. Foundation 2 says:

Foundation 2 really enjoyed the assembly this morning and loved the “Hope-o-potamus” poem. We spoke about times where we kept on trying:

Elsie: “When I tell my mummy I can’t go to sleep I keep trying until I can.”
Oliver: “When I run I don’t give up even if I get tired.”
Jake: “When I was riding my bike I fell off but I kept on trying.”
Kyton: “When I do PE if I get tired I don’t stop and I keep on trying.”

We also talked about how we would have helped the Hippopotamus to keep on going:

Esme: “I would say ‘No, don’t stop. It’s not too far.”
Dorothy: “I would say ‘keep going.’

  6. Year 1 says:

Year 1 enjoyed the Hope-a-potamus story. We thought about times when we did not give up.
Teddy lost his cuddly wolf called grey and he did not give up searching for it.
Lois said she had been on a long, long walk but she did not give up – she kept on going even though her legs were tired. Molly B remembered when she was in Venice sightseeing and she was so hot and tired walking round and she kept on going and was glad that she did.
Imogen A said that she did not give up when she was learning to tie her laces.
Flossie said she did not give up when she was learning to ride her bike.
Neave lost her cat Maisy and kept looking until she found her.

We thought about what we would say to the hippo to encourage him to not give up.
Finnley said ‘ Don’t give up!’
    Sadie said ‘Keep on going!’
Emma said ‘Don’t worry you can do it!’
Imogen said ‘Have a drink and keep on trying’
Charlie said ‘ Don’t stop now – you can do it!’
Neave said ‘ Keep on going – be independent and strong!’
Mellieha said ‘You can do it – Believe!’

We all enjoyed the virtual assembly and are looking forward to hearing more stories tomorrow!

  7. Mrs Arnold says:

We listened ‘The Book of Hopes’ and really enjoyed ‘The Greatest Gift.’ It was all about how our toys have been waiting for us for so long to have time to play and eventually in Lockdown, we had time to play! Mrs Arnold talked about all the games she played at home with her girls during Lockdown and the children told us that they had played games too. We agreed that we would try to listen to all of the poems from the book over the week as we liked it so much.

We listened to Bob Marley ‘Three Little Birds’ about how everything will be alright. We had already listened to it a few weeks ago as part of our music lesson when we focussed on Reggae music and had talked about how it made us feel. The children said the music made them feel:

    Rio – Calm
    Eleonora – Happy
    Orla – Relaxed
Sebby – It brings back memories of when I heard a singer singing it on holiday

We listened to ‘Bring me Sunshine’ and it made us all feel happy and delighted.

  8. Year 1 says:

We enjoyed listening to the poem ‘Say something nice’ and talked about how it made us feel when somebody said something nice to us. the children said words like happy, pleased, smiley and joyful.

Year 1 loved the song ‘Bring Me Sunshine’ by Willie Nelson. They were waving their arms in the air and there were lots of smiles and laughs in our classroom. Molly B said that the music made her feel crazy. Imogen W said it made her feel happy. Emma said the words made her feel smiley and happy. Ella liked the words ‘bring me sunshine’ as she said when it is sunny it makes you feel happy.

We chatted about hope and how it is good to have nice things to look forward to.

  9. foundation says:

Foundation 2 enjoyed listening to the poem “Say Something Nice.” We discussed the meaning of the word “compliment” and how that is a way of saying something nice to others. We worked in our talk partners to think of nice things we could say. Lots of the children spoke about how much they want to say that they love their friends and family.

We also listened to the songs and the children loved them both! They said they felt happy when they listened to them.

  10. s14smiah says:

Year 5 really enjoyed listening to the songs on the blog.

Bob Marley – Everything’s gonna be alright
Charlie – this song makes me feel relaxed
Ellis – it reminds me of my Dad because we listen to it all the time
Ollie – it reminds me of happy times
Anaya – it made me feel happy

Willie Nelson – Bring Me Sunshine
Lily – this song makes me feel silly
Alice – this makes me feel weird
Riley – it makes me want to dance
Ava – it makes me feel embarrassed

We had lots of smiles in the classroom listening to these 2 songs and some in sync clicking! 🙂
