Year 1 loved this story. They told me that Mr Bear found it difficult to sleep because of all the noises in the night. Edward said that the hooting owl kept him awake. Elliot said that baby bear was awake and pretending to be an aeroplane. Noor-Ul said that the cat whaling kept him awake. Finley said the kitchen tap dripping disturbed him. Archie said that the hum of the fridge was annoying. Reuben told her that Mrs Bear’s snoring kept him awake.
Matthew said that eventually Mrs Bear had turned over in bed and stopped snoring so finally Mr Bear was able to get to sleep. Edward said that in the morning Mr Bear was tired and grumpy because he had had a disturbed night with all the noises.
Ben told us that sometimes the television keeps him awake so he reads his book until he feels sleepy again.

Joe told us that peace is when it is still and quiet. He said he likes peace after school. Mrs Parker agreed that was what she liked at the end of a school day!!

Lots of children said they like peace and quiet at bedtime when they want to relax and chill before sleep. Courtney and Archie said they like peace when they are outside in the garden. Elsie likes to go to her bedroom for peace and quiet.

Edward said that Peace is important in our world as we want people to live happily together and not to fight in wars.

  2. Mrs Arnold says:

Alex – Mr Bear found it hard to get to sleep
Jake – Mr Bear found it different because every time he moved to a different location, different things made it difficult
Ben – I have had a night like Mr Bear, my Brother was snoring so I shut my eyes tight and turned over to face the mattress
Aaliyah – I think Mr Bear would have felt tired in the morning because he hadn’t had any sleep
Lucas – I think peace is when you relax and calm
Evie – I need peace when I go to sleep and when I’m trying to do my work
Josh – I get peace by going to my room

    Year 5:
What did Mr Bear find really difficult to do?
    Go to sleep.

What made things difficult for him?
Mummy Bear kept snoring and all the sounds got too much for him to sleep.

Did Mr Bear eventually manage to do what he wanted?
Yes he did but only for a short time.

How do you think Mr Bear felt in the morning?
Very tired, moody, grumpy and a short temper. HE would also be looking forward to going to sleep.

In Year 5, we have had a mixture of some children having had night like Mr Bear and others always having a lovely night sleep.

What do you think peace is?
Year 5 thought of a variety of different meanings, for example: when you want everyone to be quite and when you want some alone time.

When do you feel you need peace?
When we are working, when we have had a long, busy day, when you are at home, when you’ve been to a football game and someone has scored because it’s really loud and when you are on the phone.

We do lots of things for peace for example: Alfie likes to go outside and meditate, go to a friend’s house, horse riding, walking, stroking the dog, being outside, running, playing sports, reading and finding a quite room.

Mr Bear found sleeping really tricky because of noises.

He eventually managed to get some sleep but not very much.

In the morning, he felt really tired and ill.

A lot of us have had a night where we couldn’t sleep.

Here are some things we tried to do when we couldn’t sleep:
    -count sheep
    -focus on my breathing
    -listen to mindfulness tracks
    -cover ears
    -wear a sleeping mask
-ask people around the be quiet

    PEACE

    We think peace is:
    – calm
    – quiet
    – kindness
    – respect
    – happiness
    – content

    We need peace:
    – during tests
    -during stressful times

Foundation loved listening to this story, its one of our favourites.
A couple of the suggestions for peace and how we get it is as follows:
    (Rio) Peace is quiet
(Luke) You have a nice day
(Sebby) When I’m on my own I need peace.
(Gwen) When I play with my toys.
(Orla) I read a book to get peace.

We want peace when we are also going to sleep.

We also talked about having peace in the classroom (so we can do our work), peace when going to sleep and peace on earth.

Year 3 enjoyed this story about trying to sleep. We shared lots of things we like to do when we go to bed. Most of us like bedtime as we can finally be still, calm and have a story.
We like peace and quiet, it lets you think clearly, take a deep breath, make decisions.
Laila likes it quiet when it’s time to work in class.
Miss Payne likes peace when she goes walking in the forest.
Adah likes peace when her brother is not around.
James likes peace when he is watching tv.
Zeb likes quiet when he is trying to read.
Lots of children shared their thoughts today.
Peace is important to keep us happy and calm.
